Winged Hussar Publishing Taking On Battles & Martian Invasions
March 23, 2016 by brennon
Winged Hussar Publishing have added a new sourcebook to their collection for you to start planning out some alternative history gaming. The first of these is very much in the theme of otherworld experiences with The Great Martian War by Scott H. Washburn...
"The Great Martian War: Invasion!, by Scott Washburn. Having been beaten back from their initial foray in Britain at the turn of the century, Martian warships land in the American west. Using limited technology, U.S. forces must fight the Martians with improvised technology."
This could provide you with some great options for trying out new scenarios where your alien walkers are clashing against World War I era human tanks from all the countries of the world. I'm sure that they would have ganged together to fight against this menace. Check out the eBook version of the book here too.
The other book coming soon is more Historical but also allows you to try out some alternatives. Battles Before Gunpowder by Joe Krone talks through thirty battles before the age of gunpowder and allows you to re-fight them using your own tactics.
Here is a sample page from the book which isn't on their webstore just yet. It shows the Battle of Brunanburh. You get maps, details on the forces, their commanders and even a few shots of miniatures playing out the battles.
Will you be checking these books out?

Isn’t that the ‘All Quiet on the Martian Front’ setting ?
In fairness, the publishers of All Quiet… have recently gone out of business, so this has probably come along at a good time for people interested in this ‘theme’
@Kbog Sounds like it to me.
Would be good if there were more details about the book, like how many pages, Scott?
Hmm, all set in the US? I’m sure there was a First World War version of this set in Europe a while back, at the same time as that (awesome) faux documentary came out. Or was that just a rumour?
Dark Osprey did a ‘Historical’ book on the original invasion – it’s a good read. Not heard anything about a European WWI set book.
I was aware that Alien Dungeon had gone face down – i didn’t back the KS and am now not sure i’ll ever manage to get the rules (though i’m sure EvilBay will provide one day when the prices become reasonable).
That artwork even looks like it comes for ‘All Quiet….’
attack wave two to control a continent after the fall of the euro front.
This was, in fact, meant to be a novel companion (part of a series) for All Quiet on the Martian Front (which HAS gone out of business).
At the last minute, references to AQMF were removed from the book (except the cover image, which was the game’s box art). It sounds like Scott may continue with the series and the publisher might even realign with a new game publisher if someone decides to assume the rights to AQMF. As an AQMF player, I’m looking forward to this book.
BTW, there is an unofficial fan forum that’s been set up, where players are amassing everything they can find on the game in one place and that includes the construction of a living rulebook. http://aqmf.freeforums.net/
I have the read the book and got a second copy for my dad. I think it’s a great read, the author really paid attention to the issues of the time period and has great attention to detail. I really recommend giving the book a try even if you don’t play All quiet on the Martian Front the book is fun for War of the Worlds fans too.
I love the All Quiet on the Martian Front game and setting, and by all accounts this is a great read, but they need a graphic designer to come in and fix the text on that cover.
