This article is a preview of the expansions for our massive scale miniatures game, Age of Tyrants.

As we're funding the production of Age of Tyrants via a Kickstarter campaign, release of these expansions is tied into to stretch goals, so the more funding milestones we reach, the more of these expansion sets will be in the game.

Heroes of the Age

Heroes of the Age adds two named captains to each faction, one an infantry captain and one a tank commander. Each of these captains has enhanced command capabilities and access to their own special order cards that allows them to pull off signature moves.

Heroes-of-the-Age

The Junkers get the ruthless Infantry Tribune Severina Lucilla Tertia and scavenging expert Loricatia Tribune Marcus Secundus. Viridians get the Legendary Shock Marine commander Major Tom "Buzzsaw" Flint and rising tank command star Major Kate "Tornado" McCann.

The Syntha get a couple of new prototypes for the battlefield in the form of Psyche, an new Artemis class biomech, and a Kallista command tank featuring the most advanced SPOMM deployed to date on the battlefield. Finally VASA get Suppressor Commissar Victor Orolv, the Eagle of Kernos, and Tank Commissar Mariya Volkova, the Winter Wolf.

 Vasa Skyhammer Fighters

In addition to the named heroes we're adding a new, off table command element in the form of the Battalion HQ. Designed with bigger battles for more than one company in mind, the Battalion HQ can give orders to any bases on the table and also gets new special order cards.

Urban Warfare

Urban Warfare adds CLAUs (Capital Light Assault Units) to the mix, and you can field platoons of them just like other platoons. A CLAU Team consists of two large battlesuits supported by infantry. As the main component is armour, it counts as a materiel target, but can move on difficult terrain like a unit on foot. There are also new rules for occupying and attacking buildings and a new terrain table for urban combat zones.

Urban-War

The new platoons include six general purpose Neros and two close assault specced Scorpios for the Junkers with attendant legionaries. The Viridian CLAU platoon has six long range Sabres and two close range anti-materiel Tomahawks.

The Syntha have four anti-materiel Talons and four long range Pyros in their CLAU platoons. Finally VASA have four long range, anti-materiel Executioners and four shorter range Pacifiers.

Viridian CLAU Team

You may also designate one of the CLAU lieutenants as an Ace. Aces have enhanced command capabilities and their own special order cards.

Recon Ops

Recon Ops is all about fast, light and stealthy troops, so we're adding a few old favourites to the roster from Urban War and Void. You can add these as platoons to your companies, just like any other platoon. There are also new rules for flank moves and marking targets.

Recon-Ops

The new platoons include Saurian Riders and Jaguar Strike Craft for Viridians, Sandrunners and Dune Raiders for Junkers, HK-2000s for the Syntha (scout themed platoon and heavy themed platoon), and Viper Wings and Archangels for VASA.

Sandrunners

You may also designate one of the recon lieutenants as an Ace. Aces have enhanced command capabilities and their own special order cards.

Air Superiority

The Air Superiority set, as I'm sure you've worked out, adds fliers to the game. They work in an abstract way, being based off table, but coming on to carry out close support, aerial bombardments and strikes, and transport missions. While they are on the playing area they are vulnerable to enemy intercepts and ground fire. While off the table, the fliers and any bases they are transporting automatically recover a point of suppression for each full turn they remain out of play.

Air-Superiority

Each faction gets two new platoons, one containing attack craft and the other transports, which are also capable of defending themselves just as ground based transports can. Junkers get Maw Lifters and Mars Bombers, Viridians get Mustang Fighters and Falcon Transports, Syntha get Ghost Attack Craft and Spectre Transports and VASA get Liberator transports and Skyhammer fighters.

You may also designate one of the flier lieutenants as an Ace. Aces have enhanced command capabilities and their own special order cards.

Future Plans

Beyond these four expansions we have others planned if the Kickstarter goes well including allies for the existing factions, which are Triads for VASA, Gladiators for Junkers, Prosthenes for Syntha and an expanded selection of saurians for Viridians.

There will also be an amphibious assault set, a set of fortress and bunkers and a tank hunting themed expansion. We also have two full factions in the works, the alien Koralon, and the superhuman Neo-Iskandrians.
