Beasts of War August Painting Competition

It's official! Beasts of War will be running a monthly Painting Competition.
Starting this month, we'll be choosing a subject and asking you guys to enter pictures of your fantastic miniatures... not just for the glory and recognition of your fellow BoW fans... but for cool prizes!
The first official competition is sponsored by our friends at Secret Weapon and this month's top prize is a complete set of the brand new Secret Weapon Washes and a 6 month Backstage Pass to Beasts of War!
But that's not all, we'll also have a prize for the Honorable Mention... this won't necessarily be the best paint job... it'll be awarded to the miniature that has impressed the judges the most with its uniqueness.
The Honourable Mention will be awarded with a 6 month Backstage Pass!
So there's all to play for and no reason not to enter!!!
So how do you enter?
Well you just follow these simple entry guidelines:
- Paint Your Miniature
- Take some pictures* of your Work in Progress (this is required to prove authenticity)
- Take a Picture* of your final entry
- Upload your images to Minirama
- Image manipulation beyond the correction of lighting and contrast will be deemed a breach of the rules and will cause your entry to be disqualified
- Post your Minirama link into this month's Competition Thread on the Painting Factory Group
- Remember to add any additional notes to the post that you think are required
- Viewers are asked to thumb up (or down) the posts with links they like (feel free to rate the Minirama images too)
- At 24:00 GMT/BST, on the last day of the month, the competition closes
- Entries received after that date/time will not be counted
- The judges will deliberate and the winners will be announced a few days after the closure date
- The Judges decision is final
- An announcement will then be posted on the BoW Front Page for all to view!
* Remember resolution is everything... if we can't see your work then you're off to a bad start!
The Judging Panel will consist 5 members, drawn from representatives from the BoW team and sponsors (3 members) and BoW viewers (2 members), with two standing panel members being:
- BoW Romain (@elromanozo)
- Alan Emlet (@wildchevy)
So all that remains is to give you this month's theme. As it's the first (official) competition, I thought we would go with something pretty broad to get things going... so the theme will be...
Footsoldiers
This means rank-and-file guys, not heroes, monsters and individuals. We want to see your bog-standard grunts!
You can enter a unit or an individual model, sci-fi or modern, historical or fantasy, a custom conversion or an "off-the-rack" model... let your imagination run wild!

If you want to volunteer to fill the final seat on this month's Judging Panel, then say so in the comments below... but be warned... if you are selected, you automatically disqualify yourself from entering this month's competition.

I might not be the best painter but I wish to enter just to push myself and my limits so I can get better. Thank you BoW and Secret Weapon for your continued support of the hobby. Lets get painting WOOHOO!

@warzan Unfortunately for me, I can not upload to minirama, as it tells me I have no file uploaded, even though I have selected the file, typed something, and filled in everything that needs to be filled in.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Ah, just read it want footsloggers… don’t have any unpainted and they aren’t worthy of a comp. Maybe next time…

If you haven’t got an unpainted one or a painted one that’s up to your current standard why not strip a painted one and repaint it 🙂

Painting minis is my favourite part of the hobby, I have minis for games I have never, nor will ever , play, just because I saw a picture and thought they looked cool.
I’ve never shown a pic of any of my work before, mainly because I dont think I paint to a particularly high standard, its just something I like doing anyway, but I’ll give this a go – it only works if people participate, after all.

Well yes, of course, but *in general* it’s only fear itself…
I dont really fear putting my minis on display, more like I always thought it pointless, they arent good enough for anyone to take much interest in. However, as with other stuff on BoW, I think its important to join in, its how the site grows, so I’ll be putting up one of my ‘sort of blood angel’ assault marines I think. There’s only one person in the world who’s “the best” at anything, and even that’s debatable in the case of something subjective like painting. Everyone else has something they can learn, and putting models up here in a nice, friendly and supportive environment is likely to get you a whole bunch of helpful advice to improve your skills.
I’ll be putting something in for this even though I haven’t painted anything in years. Look forward to seeing your entries 🙂

@nogginthenog defo dude! the more of us enter, the better. All the previous comps that @wildchevy set-up has given me tons of hints/tip from the other painters and how they go about doing their minis, as well inspire me; also the incentive for me to get my models painted!

Good onya @wildchevy – much deserved recognition for organising all previous painting comps. And many thanks to the BOW team for running with the torch. I’ve found these competitions very inspiring and a great motivator to paint more models to higher standard.
Hopefully with the incentive of great prizes there will be lots more entries, good luck everyone.
Hey guys, great idea! I’m looking forward to entering in some submissions for future contests, but would be happy to offer my services as a judge this month instead of entering.

Is there a chance there would be a listof the type of units that can be entered. Such as Would lets say a reverend Custodier be allowed to eb entered, or a Nob Biker, or a Killa Kan, or a Dreadgnought, or a Helljack? Woudl help out 🙂

Nice idea, but surely people will just get pictures of profesionally painted models from the internet, and if they take pictures being sold on ebay when you go to check if its a copy, it might already be gone!
If you volenteer yourself for the judging panel, would it just be over the internet? I could think about if this is the case.

Truthfully I don’t have time to do an entry mainly because I’m getting my entry for euromilitaire ready so in the interests of helping the community and it’ll be fun i’ll put my name up for the judging panel

Has there been any progress on refining the submission process? The Competition Thread is still closed for comments. Do we expect it to be re-opened to continue the submission process as described above, or should we expect some changes? Thanks!
