Farewell To Warhammer 40k Artist Wayne England
February 10, 2016 by dracs
It's a sad day for tabletop gaming fans as Wayne England, one of the most prolific artists in the industry, has sadly passed away.
Wayne England was an artist whose work spanned a wide variety of games and genres, including such giants as Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer 40k and Fantasy, and Magic the Gathering.
This is alongside his work as a concept artist for Avatars of War...
His work is well regarded as having a vivid style that has influenced the visual style of the games he has worked for. While you might not have recognised his name, you have almost certainly seen some of his pieces.
Wayne England did a great job at realising the worlds and characters we have all been playing with. He is survived by his wife and children and I am sure will be sorely missed by the gaming community.
Do you recognise Wayne England's art? What's your favourite piece of his?
Images taken from Wayne England Facebook.
Our sincerest thoughts go out to Victoria and his family.
"While you might not have recognised his name, you have almost certainly seen some of his pieces..."

That Chaos Terminator has always stuck in my mind.
RIP Wayne England.
Yeh me also. That picture is what chaos was to me when I started playing.
Likewise…
same here
Art is eternal, though he may be gone he lives on.
Rest in Peace.
RIP good sir
That Codex Chaos Marine cover art was one of my favourite of all game book covers.
That Chaos Terminator is one of the most iconic images of 40K Chaos to my mind. Whenever I think of the faction of think of that. A great talent has been lost.
His art on the front of White Dwarf is what got me into Wargamming. (And gaming in general.)
I still can’t get over the stuff he used to produce using crayons.
RIP Wayne England. May he rest at the right hand of the Emperor.
I did like most of his work. It’s too bad he kicked the bucket, both for his family who will miss him dearly and for us fans who won’t be able to enjoy any new pieces of his great art.
A sad day indeed for such a talented gent, condolences to his wife and family, he will live on in his work which many of us will always remember.
His art was what drew me into the 40k universe. Especially his art in Space Hulk.
His marine illustrations, loyalists and chaos both, are some of my all time favorit art pieces.
Great art that will live on for many years to come.
RIP
Wayne England was one of my all-time favourite illustrators. I loved how boldly graphic his artwork was. He is responsible for some of the most distinctive and iconic artwork in the industry. His interview in White Dwarf 200 helped me make the decision to go to art school and study Illustration. The guy was a legend.
Such a great shame, especially for his family. I can’t tell you the number of skulls I used to draw in his style, always with the mad grin and furrowed eyebrows and sharp, blade like cheekbones. I can still draw them today. His unique style was always recognisable, and it was always a thrill to see his new work. A great loss to the fantasy art world.
he did some brilliant artwork a huge loss to the world.
Wayne being involved in Age of Tyrants pricked my ears up – made it a lot more interesting than it would’ve been.
One of the most influential artists in this area. RIP sir.
The fluff fuels our minds, but the artwork egnights its. He was one of the best and we may have lost him, but his work will always be with us. RIP Mr England.
I’m really not sure what to say… As someone who got into the hobby after seeing the art work in white dwarf and then the books Wayne was THE artist responsible for the majority of the art that caught my attention, going back so many years now and even when I was away from GW for so many years anytime something GW caught my attention it was alway his artwork. RIP Wayne, your artwork will live on forever in the minds of those you inspired
Such a shame. He gave us so many years of so much great artwork.
