A Little Dry Ice Can Transform Your Gaming Experience
February 1, 2016 by deltagamegirl22
As if perfectly timed with the guys' recent discussion about game ambiance, I stumbled upon this really fantastic picture on Facebook. The company Warzone40K makes custom mats and tables, but this is less about that aspect and more about their clever use of dry ice (handled safely of course), to completely elevate the look and feel of this gaming table.
It took a regular game, that probably looked fantastic by itself, and essentially gave it a cinematic feel by adding drama and an eerie feeling to the board with the fog. Why stop there? You could take this a step further and some interesting lighting and maybe a low sound track in the background, and find yourself in a truly immersive game experience!
We've added a video above about the dangers of dry ice so you don't just go trying this willy nilly!
Has anyone incorporated a fog effect like this in their game and how did you use it?

That is freaking awesome
My friend is planning on doing this soon, I’ll get him to post some pics some time 😀
WANT!
There was a table at Salute a couple years back that used dry ice. Had lighting and sound effects too. It was for a horror game that I think has since been to KS but I forget the name.
Not sure that’s great advice, specially indoor with CO2. Even though it might be hard to get, not to be a downer, but it probably shouldn’t be highlighted in a gaming site 🙁
I meant hard to get for kids, they are not uncommon and one should really know the danger before using it, it ain’t a toy and not worth risking your health
Added a little vid about the dangers to the top
Thanks, Warren. 🙂
That table looks amazing!
I have a local source where you can buy it by the kilo. I’ve used it for nerf/air soft games and for Halloween but never for table top games. It’s good that you posted the safety video because the burns you can get from dry ice are horrific. If you do try this then make sure the room is well ventilated and that it isn’t stored in a sealed container.
Might give this a try at some point.
OK first off. That hazard video is inaccurate. CO2 is not toxic. We breath it out as part of respiration, and yes, it is part of the air we breath. It will only kill you if the amount in the air is such that is asphyxiates you. That is different to being toxic. I can asphyxiate you with too much Nitrogen. But Nitrogen (again making up a good portion of the air we breath) is not toxic. Next, from handling dry ice a lot, dry ice will only give you cold burns is you hold it for a very long… Read more »
Also fyi it forms at -78.5°C not 78.5°C, because 78.5°C is the equivalent of about -230°C. See the difference.
This is why we work in Kelvin in the labs, aka absolute temperatures.
Sorry 78.5°C is 378°K. Ugh. brain went into Kelvin mode to early. Anyway the point stands.
I say about as well, technically 0°C is almost at the triple point of water when ice, water vapour and water liquid coexist. That is something like 273K.
#SCIENCE!
found this video which is better I think. @doctorether @warzan

alternatively, doesnt a ultrasonic mist maker do the trick ?
it is used for plant / decoration and is completely safe (well it requires some elec though but compared to frozen co2, it’s unharmful) ?
has someone ever tested it ?
Buy a cheap fogger from china website, like 10 euro/12 pounds, and turns water into watervepor, The effect is not so strong BUT it is TOTALY SAVE!!,

I do have a fog machine but I haven’t tried it out yet…I really need to now, that has me excited!
I have a smoke machine, but when you use it much, everthing gets oily, so please watch out, after a night paty with fog machine and lasershow, next day lot of work to clean the windows/lights/tables because all whenned oily. Therefor i did not try it out on my table.
The mist maker ( fogger) leave only pure water, and never had any problems with that on my table.
that a good table to play with me why i WILL forget to move some of my mini
