Idyllwild Preview Chieftains & Their Stats For BattleAxe: Northern Wars
January 25, 2016 by brennon
Idyllwild talked about their new skirmish game which uses their Dark Age Outpost not long ago called BattleAxe: Northern Wars. Well, this week we get ourselves a look at the two Chieftains for the warbands and the stat cards that come with them.
While the miniatures look a little bit static and simplistic in their stance I do like the idea of additional skirmish options for playing out Dark Age games, especially if they are quick and easy. It looks like both Bjorn and Dreyrugr have the same statistics as Chieftains but maybe there are additional cards that play with that.
Hopefully we'll see some videos from Idyllwild explaining more about the gameplay.
What do you think of this pair?

the figures look brill.
Thanks for the post BoW! Really appreciate it. The figures will be one solid plastic injected piece straight out of the box so this does hinder the possible poses we could use. On the up side, no need for glue! More mock-ups, prototypes and gameplay videos coming very soon 🙂 and stay tuned for the Kickstarter later this year.
They look a bit thick on things like the weapons and shield but as @idyllwildgames mentioned its a single piece right out of the box. With the proper price point I think people would consider these.
They do look a bit thick as 3D renders, I agree, however after 3D printing and injection molding they look just right 🙂 In my humble opinion.

One thing awesome about BattleAxe is you can fit almost any mini of your choice into the BattleAxe bases and enjoy all the amazing mechanics and unique components with your own custom army!
BattleAxe: Northern Wars will come with about 66 miniatures per box, including Warhorses with mounted and unmounted versions of 8 warriors and 2 Engineers with cart for carrying building materials picked up during gameplay.
sounds good the wall’s should sell well I think they have a strong solid look to them & Orky
I would strongly suggest that you have the figures professionally painted. The painted figure in the image linked above is pretty poor. Fine for table top gming, but a good paint job can really sell figures. Look at the Knight Games batman range. A poor paint job and they would hardly sell as they are so tough to paint well. I realise its an expense and all business are tough to run without going over budget but it would be a bit like designing a car and photographing it covered in poo. Or something. The single piece figures always lack… Read more »
@idyllwildgames What sort of price point will the game be at and will we be able to get a rules preview/download?
Totally agree @sniperbait we will definitely have them properly painted for the Kickstarter and for the rule book is a must. I haven’t received the final quote from the factory and all the numbers just quite yet, but (ball park estimate) should be around $60-$70 a box? It’s a BIG game, 66 minis, six 10×10 game boards, terrain pieces (“Dark Age Outpost”) and more. I think I will have more detailed gameplay videos rather than releasing the rules. 🙂
