Take A Look At The Year Ahead For Flames Of War & Battlefront
January 12, 2016 by brennon
Battlefront have given us a look ahead to what's coming for Flames of War in 2016. We're starting things with a look at the new Tanks skirmish game which will allow you to pit big armoured vehicles against each other with simple and easy to learn mechanics...
The Starter Set will include one Panther and two Shermans but additional expansions will include one tank plus the cards for the crew and upgrades. Essentially think of this as being X-Wing for World War II tanks with packs bringing new tanks for the British, Soviets, Germans and US.
Could we see John giving up his World of Tanks addiction and actually coming to the tabletop to play out those digital fantasies in cold hard plastic? I think this is a great step in the right direction for Battlefront and it certainly sounds like it could be a simple way to get stuck into World War II.
Flames of War also welcomes a couple of new sourcebooks in 2016. Gung-Ho will focus on the Americans in the Pacific whilst Banzai will cover the Japanese. Island hopping is a piece of World War II we don't usually see covered so we look forward to what they're doing on that front.
The Battlefield In A Box range will also be expanding with new pieces and old favourites returning to the fold. These seem like some very staple buildings which could provide for some interesting set pieces on the battlefield. Pre-made and painted terrain always gets a thumbs up from us.
Don't forget about Team Yankee either as two more nations will be joining the fighting this year.
What are you looking forward to most from Battlefront?

Ben says . . . “Don’t forget about Team Yankee either as two more nations will be joining the fighting this year.”
For the love of all that good and holy in this world . . . can one of them PLEASE be the West Germans? I need me some Leopard 2s!
The hints they were giving before Christmas on their website we will see Brits and W-Germans.
Or which nation used BO-105 Helicopters en mas?
Oh yeah. That will be awesome. Fortunately we decided to play Team Yankee in 6mm or 1/285th (1inch = 1cm). So we already started on some other factions, thanks to H&R and GHQ: http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/n52.html
Myself I be looking forward to some French AMX 13 (like these http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/n113.html). Propably have to wait unitl 2017 for some rules, until then I make some of my own 😀
Oh heck yes! Looking forward for those Leopards too!
I can’t wait for the tank skirmish game.
This looks suspiciously like Star Wars X-Wing with tanks….
…which in turn was Wings of Glory with x-wings.
…which was Blue Max with out the hex map and maneuver chart 😉
If this is “X-Wing with Tanks” my wallet might be in for some trouble….
the buildings look good.
Very interested.
Uh, yes please? This is a fantastic idea to get people into tabletop style games, even if they are not familiar with its game style.
Simple, but not too-simple game of tank vs tank/ Yes please. Esp. if you don’t need tons of tanks and infantry like FoW.
At least you know what you are getting from the name of the game! Seriously though, it looks neat.
I think this may prove a popular addition down the club
Very interesting.
I’m diggin’ this X-wing with tanks idea. I don’t see where it specified what scale….I will assume 15mm, which would make he game a nice pseudo gateway drug for FOW…
All up for this, I liked the BA version for tank skirmishes but at FOW scale you can stay small, or go full on Kursk!!! 🙂
No slowing down for BF this year …
Oh dear lord….i just had an idea for the Tanks game….
