Mechanicus Week Day 2: Boots On The Ground (Troop Choices)
December 22, 2015 by lloyd
Now it’s time to explore the meat (or in this case metal!) that gets thrown into the grinder each time the Adeptus Mechanicus go to war in Warhammer 40,000.
We’ll be taking a look at the Troop Choices for this army including the likes of Skitarii Rangers and Vanguards and the heavier options like Battle Servitors too.
What makes up the bulk of your army?

for me – not WH40k player great video!
The Smash special rule gets you down to a single attack but doubles your strength. The AP 2 stats comes from the monstrous creature special rules. You don’t get it automatically with Smash…
No smash does give the model AP2. “All of the close combat attacks, except hammer of wrath attacks, of a model with this special rule are resolved at AP2 (Unless its attacking with a AP1 weapon).(p.171 BRB) The reason Monstrous creatures are AP2 is because they have Smash..
You’re right. Didn’t have the rulebook with me when I wrote this.
The Servitors are the dregs of society, the Skitarii are volunteers and basically the ‘Imperial Guard’ of the Mechanicum. For example, Skitarii Alphas are sometimes noble pilots who failed their Rite of Becoming and couldn’t pilot and Imperial Knight.
The Vanguard and Ranger are uplifted from society. It is a great honour to be an Vanguard or Ranger. These people are trying before they are recruited to achive a mechanized living with implants and electoos. When they are uplifted to the ranks of a skitarii they get the longed for upgrades. The heavy battle servitors (Kataphrons) are mind wiped criminals with no better use for the… Read more »
Those Skitarii guys as the rest of the Imperium are just there to die… as martyrs… for the Omnisiah… no wonder the whole Imperium is collapsing and there is no hope. It seems all the citizens are predestined to die… just for the sake of it (the Emperor) lol; Great show. Made me think a lot about the 40k universe and its “fatality” mood.
a very nasty sounding bunch units even for allies if they get to close.
Another great thing about grav against vehicles is it not only does a Hull Point but also the model suffers a immobilized result and when a model is already immobilized and suffers another immobilized result it loses another HP on top of the first. So the first 6 takes 1 HP and any following 6’s take 2 away so you can knock a 3 HP vehicle out with 2 6’s on the graviton roll.
Grav is really one of the strongest things in the game, it just can’t drop void shields.
Historical gamer following along trying to get into this.
Jezail- long barrelled musket/ rifle much used in nineteenth century by Afghan and Northwest Frontier tribesmen snipers. Looks just like the picture in the codex. Nothing new even on Mars.
I love this Skiitari troop box because is one of the cheapest ways to make an In Her Majesty’s Name Steampunk Military band xD
