Having used many Army Painter primers, I say use the red one as their mettalic ones as more glossy and harder to paint on top of… Paint just doesn’t stick as well on the mettallic primers…

Use the airbrush metalls on pistons, cabels, etc. Cut paper strips to fit them under the panels and over the metallics to protect them. Let one guy hold the papers and another sprays the panels. If there is a bit of overspray it’s easy to fix, later

if you use red then the metallic parts may look rusty in the corners making it more realistic plus many reds are opaque showing the base colour through.
