I am all over this after the TY bootcamp. 🙂
People were asking about some kind of “narrative” on the TY Bootcamp, @wittmann007 , with our units having names, commanders, and specific experiences in the games. I could certainly do mine . . . but it would only be fun if we could write up others’ experiences as well and weave it into some kind of a narrative. I don’t have everyone’s “records” though . . . so it might be tough.
Definitely sounds like it would be a fun project, however. 😀
Send me designations and you shall have a book worthy of Tolstoy.
Ah so maybe no market for my 16 volume Go Cycle then?
Well Japan made an entire anime about it, so you never know.
That’s some good advice, Sam. I aspire to write as well and when I GM’d I would always approach it with a story in mind but allowing it to change as the players did things I hadn’t thought about. I really do think the secret to finishing a story is to just get the words on the page and to refrain from editing (at all) until you are finished. Once you are finished you can polish, correct grammar and spelling, add or subtract as the case may be to make the story a stronger story.
great article sam! One of the things I like from Stephen King’s book on writing is about stories in general, ‘A story exist’s already it just need’s someone to tell it. It’s like the bones of a dinosaur and you are the archeologist. You need to dig it out and put it together the right way.’
Challenge accepted! Here’s to writing something far more interesting that Twilight.
No one should suffer through that book Sam, no one
Try the one direction fan fiction novel that got published. A friend of mine bought me it for a going away present. It was so bad I gave dramatic readings of it.
I used to do this all the time. Maybe I’ll dust off my fav keyboard and spin a yarn or two of those games I’ve played in the past and present.
Nice article. A good piece of fiction can indeed increase your enjoyment of a particular scenario or set of characters.
