Archaon The Everchosen Hits Age Of Sigmar
November 30, 2015 by brennon
Games Workshop have released the next big character for Age of Sigmar. Archaon The Everchosen has got a new look and an entirely new daemonic mount with which to terrorise the realms with...
As you can see he is quite the monstrous sight now. As I mentioned during last week when we were looking at the clearer images of him in the leak I do actually quite like the model.
I think the design of it is rather striking and while it might be more suited to being used for dioramas and such considering its cinematic look it would be a fantastic thing to own, in my opinion anyway!
When you take a look at some of the finer details of this model then you begin to see how long it would take you to get it all painted. The amount of extra stuff packed into the mount alone, Dorghar, is insane. I like that you'd get to do some interesting and vibrant tweaks to the heads though.
In talking about the heads I should note that I still don't like the look of the Nurgle head but the other two are rather nice indeed. Archaon himself is also a rather dominating figure but I note that they have slimmed him down a bit so he looks a little more like an anime villain than he did before.
Rules wise Archaon is notably insane. He has the Slayer of Kings which can auto-kill some heroes as well as armour and shields which deflect Mortal Wounds.
In addition the three heads on Dorghar each have additional effects. You can find out more about them on the free PDF download HERE.
What do you think?

what a beautiful ‘mini’! How do you carry that anywhere? It looks huge!
£100 🙁
I bet you can find it for £80.
Wow. I really like it but give me a break with you know what. It really saddens me because game pieces become collector pieces because of the price.
Really cool model but £100 for a Special Character? No thanks.
Just a heap of mindless clutter.
Paint job looks… well, like a GW paint-job. Legible, but that’s it. Still, very impressive sculpt ! For once, I would probably pay that price to paint it. I would have to see the model up close first, but there’s potential.
This needs an airbrush, and a better paint job. I like it but HOLY CRAP THAT SUCKER IS HUGE! Hope Battlefoam can make something for him.
Just incredible! GW sure knows how to make fantastic miniatures!
Yes… well… every now and then.
…they used to, but now they make overpriced nonsense – this is just another mess of bits, stupid angles and pointless detail. Add more swirls, so it looks bigger than it is, and it then people with think the price is worth it.
Pick some other game company out there – see what they offer you for £100?
It’s not the Rackham titan dragon or Mierce’s best beasties, that’s for sure, but it’s not that bad. There’s ways to paint this so that it doesn’t look like a Cirque-du-Soleil rainbow act.
The inevitable “How do we fix this?” conversation 🙂 .
It’ll be a short conversation. The gradients and techniques are flawlessly applied, it’s the composition and harmony that’s at fault. Well, possibly something brighter for Archaon (different than the colour of his mount), and something more unified for his mount as well (although it’s mostly the armor that’s odd here). The birds could stand to have more colour. And as usual, everything’s so “edged” and contrasted and cartoony and geometric… Oh well. It’s a certain style.
I do believe the artist fell asleep during the ‘negative space’ lecture.
Probably not gonna sell that many, even casual gamers who are willing to spend a bit of money aren’t gonna want to build and transport that around.
A good project for a serious painter to show their stuff perhaps.
Kind of ridiculous.
I believe that GW have stated that they’re a miniatures company first and foremost.
So I agree, as a gaming pice that’s model is kinda ridiculous, but as a hobby project it’s fantastic.
I agree with you @lasse. Building it for a painting competition is great but like a few other their recent models they are not practical to game with.
The question though is how many are they selling? Like I said I would bet not many.
If GW consider themselves to be a miniature company then they need to start selling more minis, not jacking up prices to make it seem like they are.
I’d love to see it painted more sinister..
Otherwise I second @lasse.
Love the model but I’m confused about the fluff. Chaos gods are notably unforgiving of failure so why does Archaon keep gaining their favor? He must be the loosingest chaos lord of all time! Maybe he’s got relatives in low places? Incriminating photos of Nurgle and Khorne doing the nasty? Maybe they don’t like him so they keep evicting him from the chaos realms just to get rid of him for a while?
I’d say Archaon is more effective than Abaddon (13 crusades now?).
Its not about the winning, its the taking part that counts.
The motto of the Ruinous Powers.
Next year from GW, Warhammer 50k! It kicks off with Abaddon’s 666th Black Crusade, this time he REALLY means it!
Another AoS mini that does not appeal to me. It’s just too busy looking sculpt. They really went overboard with all that detail.
I love the dragon. I think the sculpt is one of the best beasties they’ve done. But Archaon is just lost in the mix completely. A different paint job could probably give him a little more presence and shape but the way he is here I can’t even tell what I’m looking at.
Is age of sigmar actually selling minis for GW?
I can’t speak for the whole marketplace but my local shops sold tons of the starter set then sales of the subsequent AoS releases have dropped off exponentially. I was told that the Non AoS fantasy boxes were flying off the shelves. The owner who reported this wasn’t sure why. It could be folks wanted to get the old kits before they got dropped or reworked for AoS. There’s no KoW community here as far as I know so it wasn’t folks buying for that. WH8 was all but dead round here as well so I don’t think it’s people… Read more »
Personally, I wasn’t all that interested in either the Stormcast faction (although I did like some of the models) or Khorne (I’ve never been interested in collecting Chaos, although again I do recognise that they have some rather nice models). I can understand why so much of the release schedule was given to both these factions, but it would have been nice to see new stuff for the other factions. I know Skaven saw a bunch of big model releases, but I’d have spent an unhealthy amount on new Gutter Runners (rat ninja’s can’t be a hard sell). Perhaps if… Read more »
I just don’t much care for this design. There are several interesting features, but the whole is underwhelming.
I would love to know how they decided this price point. Maybe they think the model is so good they want to keep them all for themselves……
Yet another pointless release from Wacoshop to take your money. If you pay £100 for this you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. It is just chump-bait for a game system that has seemed to just vanish – until, funnily enough, xmas-time! Watch out for the bridge they release…
People can buy what they like mate, and I personally enjoy playing AOS and think it’s a solid ruleset backed up by beautiful if expensive mini’s ( though some of the boxed sets are fairly priced IMO) when I buy this I’ll try not to be ashamed…………..
the most exalted champion of the …three… undivided chaos gods. right.
Where is the Slaaneshi head? Or is that the reason Archaon looks slightly uncomforatable in that saddle?
I believe Slaanesh has been imprisoned (by reborn elf souls?) in a realm, so for the time being, she isn’t around (and thus is not on that dragon), although if you look closely, you can see her symbol is on Archaon’s shield.
Personally, I like the model, but I couldn’t justify spending £100 (or £80 if you look online) on such a thing. I like collecting little mans to paint and go pew pew, argh, ufff with.
Apparently something to do with the 3 chaos lords who tried to kill Archaon and got a kicking for their troubles… and then eaten by the big nasty horse daemon.
One word Wow that is one incredible model GW make the best hard plastic kits period you have to pay for it but it’s worth it in my opinion the plastic kits being released for AOS at the moment are the best I have ever had the privilege put together, What GW can achieve in plastic in dam impressive I am hoping for a similar quality for the dropfleet plastics GW are the benchmark by which all plastics should be judged 😉
Not really interested in anything GW has put out lately, but my missus brought home an AoS kit (that arch thing), and after applying half a package of milliput to it, I ended up throwing it in the garbage.
Hi dude
I was referring to the actually plastic kits for the miniatures which as I mentioned are in my opinion and as I have built rather a lot are the best that I have seen. The terrain kits however I have not bought, I was watching a video on miniwargaming.com that mentioned the terrain kits where not the best they said they were built by a third party company in china and the quality was pretty hit and miss which was a strange decision by GW.
