Tale Of Four Gamers (Soviets): Game One Catch-Up!
We're talking with oriskany and brucelea about their time playing as the Soviets during the first games we detailed in the How To Play earlier.
How would you use your Soviet tanks in battle?
Sounds like fun stuff!! Bogging sounds to be a issue with the Russians for those who roll….poorly like myself at times
Bogging is everytime an issue… ^^ if you roll poorly… know that problem
As usual soviet must rely on numbers, overpowering the opponent with brutl firepower. Nothing more, nothing less. if you allow the Abrams outmanouver you (they always have rof 2 on the move) you’re busted. Some T72 pin one Abrams platoon on place and the other charge the other’s platoon positions, maybe with BTR and/or Choppa support!
M
The only problem with that formula can be deconstructed as follows: M1s shoot twice in this game. T-72s shoot only once. So off the bat, M1s have double the effective firerpower. M1s hit on 3+, T-72s on 4+. On these tables, there is always intervening terrain giving a degree of concealment, so these values go up to 4+ and 5+. Therefore, M1s hit 50% more often than T-72s. Add the 50% for accuracy and the x2 100% for rate of fire = the M1 has a x3 firepower superiority to T-72s. The points only give you about a 75% numerical… Read more »
Well sounds like Rasmus got a good position, were ther any angles of approach that would flank the position?
Sadly for me, @rollski – and to @rasmus ‘ credit . . . no. At least no easy avenues of flanking approach. He had big Lloydoslavian storage tanks on either side blocking line of sight / fire. It was really a great position, he saw it, recognized, and leveraged it well.
I suppose normally a quick artillery or missile strike to take out the storage tank S would be the order if the day
I actually joked that those big oil drums should be “flammable.” 🙂
Gotha love indestructible fixtures – the TY rules at the moment does not have building destruction. ..
A smoke screen would have also come in handy . . . Drop some white phosphorus on that position to blind American thermal sights.
The guy that lost 2 game experienced the same nughtmare I feel in one test game that we ran at our club….soviet most close as fast as they can or they will be busted by abrams overwhelming fire mass!
Comrades! Take heart! The People are behind you! The Facists were crushed 40 years ago in the Great Patroitic War, the warmongering imperialists will meet the same fate on our sacred soil… Annihilation!
Delay them. Every second you slow them down is another second for the will of the People to grow into the unstoppable might of world socialism!
For Comrade Lloyd! For the Motherland!
I can only agree properly in song:

Comrade, your taste is impeccable. Workers of the world, unite! Throw off the chains of the warmongering imperialists! Create a bright socialist future for the betterment of mankind!
Good to see the game is still so interesting with only 4 teams.
Given the small size of the first few games I’m not sure we can draw any conclusions other than dice affect outcomes.
We had to learn to crawl and walk before we could run 😉 but yes those games were fun but only a tip of the iceberg
Soviet engineering at its best it seems with all those big downs.
at some point I will have to figure out how many T-72s I want to field at 100pts
Good job guys.
Appears well balanced so far.
Focus fire and take out one group at a time
sounds fun, I think Lloyds ground crew may be prepping the official politburo aircraft for a sudden diplomatic flight to Moscow?
Fortunately for me, @zorg , I may have lost the little games, but I’ve won the big ones. 😀 I have been fortunately spared judgement by the KGB and will put in a good word fro my fellow Soviet commanders, especially commodorerob and brucelea. These Americans are crafty and cruel devils! 🙂
just don’t fall for their western decadence?
I do not fall for Western decadence . . . until lunch arrives. 😀
seems a nice balanced game, russians using the brute force/large numbers tactic versus the american technology! love it!
Cant wait to play this.
Did I hear @oriskany say Germans?
I think I was just saying that in a lot of tactuical games (Germans vs. Russians in WW2, Americans vs. Russians in WW3), you have to engage the Russians at the longest possible range.
Trust me, I hear what you’re hinting at and yes . . . I’m hoping Battlefront rolls out some Leopard 2s for Team Yankee eventually.
Seems like these moral checks are becoming a big part of this game. Makes you think more about how many do you want in one platoon.
+crazyredcoat That’s what I heard!!
1-2 & 2-1 sounds fairly balanced to me.
I like the fact that the way you setup your force can have a big outcome on the game
Crazy Ivan
fun stuff
From that tally it does sound balanced enough. Interesting that tactics and terrain seem to make a big difference.
Advance for Mother Russia
