Skathach Wraithknights Fight Their Way Onto The Warhammer 40k Battlefield
November 20, 2015 by brennon
Interesting options for the Eldar are available from Forge World this week. Two types of Wraithknight have been added to the armour of the great war host and you can also grab the rules for them in Imperial Armour: The Doom Of Mymeara...
Wraithknights
First up we'll take a look at the two Wraithknights on offer with the Skathach Wraithknight with Inferno Lances being the first out of the door. These Wraithknights are a rare breed and guard the Eldar's ethereal realm from invaders...
"A refinement of the fusion weaponry of the Fire Dragons, the inferno lance is capable of burning through the armour of even the mightiest enemy war machine in a single, sustained burst of superheated particles and high-band radiation.
To make the best use of the inferno lance, they are usually equipped as a pair."
Using the same design of Wraithknight there is also a second weapon option for budding Eldar generals to consider. See what you make of this particular Knight weilding Deathshroud Cannons...
"Skathach Wraithknights are often armed with a pair of deathshroud cannon. Similar to the armament of the Deathspinner grav tank, the deathshroud cannon projects a dense field of monofilament wire which leaves only unrecognisable gore in its wake.
The area affected can be adjusted for maximum coverage or increased lethality."
Well, that sounds disgusting. Awesome, but disgusting. Basically the Eldar have taken the weapons of their Aspect Warriors and turned them up to the maximum. I would not like to be on the wrong end of one of these.
The Doom Of Mymeara
As well as the Wraithknights you're going to need some rules and such as well as a campaign to play out. Forge World appear to be re-releasing The Doom Of Mymeara allowing you to play out the battles on the Imperial planet of Betalis III.
"Three massive Eldar war hosts attack the Imperial world of Betalis III. Their reason cannot be known but they must be stopped. Arrayed against them are the Cadian 6th Armoured Regiment of the Astra Militarum, Bran Redmaw’s Great Company of Space Wolves and Titans of the Legio Gryphonicus.
The Eldar may live to regret their incursion."
Will you be siding with the Eldar in this conflict or do you intend to stop their invasion?
Let us know in the comments...

I like them, but id rather field stuff like that in a game of epic!
I agree with @deaddave 100% 28mm with all these huge machines poncing about 28″ or whatever from each other just looks crap. Just google for pictures of 40k games with all these huge models within spitting distance of each other, it’s a joke! In fact the biggest thing that should be fielded on a 28mm table is a Leman Russ. All these titans, knights and super heavys just look stupid at that scale. Although the models can be really nice! If you want epic battles then you need smaller models, 15mm or preferably less. Its the equivalent of playing Battle… Read more »

screw it, my HTML skills are weak!
Nice picture solar, this looks like a deep tactical game 😉
That looks more like a parking lot…
That made me smile. I’ve played in more than a couple of games that looked like that, and each and every one of them was just a massive chore by the end. I’d be happier with 6mm or 10mm than 15mm but it is one of those rare occasions in life where smaller is indeed better.
Faux edit: on topic –> the wraithknight model is cool though!
Well that looks silly
Those do look rather stunning.
All of the weapons on the black one look too small for its heaving chest. Blue one is much better proportioned, but I agree with the top comments that this stuff is stupidly big for 28mm gaming.
Eldar war machines always look to spindly to me but that’s just my opinion.
They look great.
As for them being big for gaming that is true if you use narrow tables. But if you used the entire store floor it’s great. I did that years ago and got cheap brown and gray cloth and covered the couches and tables to make them mountains. It was great when you do that.
I would totally do that, or even in the garden lol
I wonder if they’ll do the centaur one.
I agree all these huge gaming pieces can’t be gamed with unless you play in a football field.
I really like them, I think in few number for one off special games they can be a fun addition to your army but Apocalypse definitely feels like a ‘car park’ when playing sometimes.
Bring on Epic! 😀
I love the models but I agree that GW have taken things too far with these huge machines wandering around the table. It looks silly and rather spoils the game. It detracts from any tactical play and what 40K is supposed to be – a squad based tactical game. Personally I think GW have been going in the wrong direction with the bigger machines approach.
Epic was always the game for huge machines and lots of tiny ants as infantry.
