Dungeon Saga is a great game and I am pleased to have been a part of the KickStarter it just a shame that as a company they were unable to proof read the hard back Adventurers Companion… Hopefully those who received the soft back edition do not have the same problems as those who have the hard back copy. A very poor show……
Nope. The softback is just as unproof read as the hard back.
Why? What was up with it??
Amongst other things… Some wrong creature descriptions and all page refferences say see page XXX.
Oh and also with the hard back were promised it would contain the ruke book and other bits as well as the a adventurers companion but it’s just an adventurers companipn with a hard cover.
Bugger me. This phone is throwing some weird stuff out today. Lol
I think Mek’s workshop for your phone.
The game rules are in the softcover AC, I didn’t get the hardcover version so I can’t comment about the state of that. Mantic said they’re not happy about the AC quality either.
They also said the Dungeon Journal and Adventurer’s Companion being together in one volume was an error. They are different format books, so I would think the Dungeon Journal will remain as is.
You reckon they wrote the book on a phone?
Does anyone know if the retail version has the same mistakes as the Kickstarter version?
Apparently it does, since they got them all printed at the same time. No news yet on whether they are stopping sales of the Adventurers Companion or what they are going to do about the error-filled book they shipped out to backers.
While the game is fun and the miniatures are not bad … the errors in the AC (most of which would have been easy to spot) and content that was promised but not delivered (yet) somehow darken the picture.
As does the lack of any real communication from Mantic since the discovery of the quality issues, or the fact that despite having plenty of time to warn backers that the copy of the AC they were going to receive was going to be full of errors they simply let us discover it when it arrived.
@deaddave when a page is referenced in the rules the page reference reads XXX which is one of the many glaring errors throughout the book…. Simple school boy stuff tbh that should have been picked picked up.
I hope the irony of the lack of proof reading in your post is not missed 😉
are the rule-book mistakes just typos?
I like the idea of a vampire-hunter dwarf based on that White Dwarf subscription figure. The Witch Hunter and Troll Slayer were my favourites in Warhammer Quest…
Always loved the Slayer
It more than just ‘typos’ such as whole paragraphs being copy/pasted in the wrong place and all the page references saying see page XX without the actual number being inserted in. Basic stuff that should not have happened from an established company.
Oh and I won’t even get into the ‘missing content’…
for further clarification see page XXX
Some rules are simply not clear enough (to me) … the text for the Slyph is the text for the Salamander.
Mantic have said there will be an update this Friday. They have said there will be a corrected reprint of the Adventurer’s Companion made available, details of which will be in the update. They have acknowledged the quality of the AC is a bit of a shocker, they know there is stuff missing, and I am confident they will fix it. The core of the AC is designing your own characters and adventures, and is described by Mantic as a “light” RPG system, not an all encompassing RPG, which I believe they feel covers the “advanced rules” for the game.… Read more »
It’s a bit remiss for the review not to mention the errors.
I for one don’t think it makes the game unplayable, and the pdf makes it usable, but for a retail product that’s a bit naff.
Oh, And just a wee point…. doesn’t an unboxing require, well, a box?
Can we see the retail packaging please BoW and Mantic?
More than likely this was a KS copy of the Adventurer’s Companion, which were all shipped without the awesome book-box.
Yeah, I get that. But we backers already have it, so this video is only of any use to those that don’t have it. And, as the Adventurer’s Companion is supposedly the first expansion to be shipped (imminently, unless Mantic have had the sense to pull it from retail until the corrections are made and/or the internet nerdstorm has calmed down), the packaging must be done already too.
Well I’m a backer and I’m still waiting for mine to tip up. Getting a little bit miffed now especially as I went the whole hog on this and got all the expansions. Still I shouldn’t be surprised, my KoW Kickstarter tipped up on the last day of shipping. I am assuming that getting stuff to deepest darkest North Yorkshire is very difficult.
Getting a bit worried with some of the feedback I’ve been reading lately.
I currently spend a few weeks of the year in Scarborough, and if you’re anywhere near there I’m not surprised. Buses stop running at 6 even during the holiday season, slower broadband than I was getting a decade ago here in Gateshead, and the town hasn’t aged well in the 30 years since I lived there. You know what though? I love the place, love North Yorkshire, and it always feels like coming home.
Oh no, I’m not as cosmopolitan as Scarborough residents. I dream of being that modernnnnnn (sorry the n got stuck in my typewriter!)
Yes crap Internet and poor delivery service is a small price to pay for living in such lovely countryside. I Probably have one of the best commutes to work you can get. Hence I’m only miffed and not hopping mad!!
Also don’t forget that the buses stop at six to protect you from the werewolves that roam the moors at night!
I live just outside the deep dark North York moors, and my dungeon saga stuff turned up about two weeks ago, Though my other Mantic kickstarter stuff has taken an age to turn up,
I’m in the USA and am still waiting for my big box. Supposedly shipping was to start Nov 16 from Chicago. Misprints clearly visible in this video. It would have been fun to see the discovery of wrong text for Sylvan, since that race was specifically asked about. And AC was supposed to contain many missions / scenarios. (12+) I certainly hope that will be addressed in Mantic’s upcoming update.
They probably have a good version of the book that was test printed and proofread and somewhere along the way someone mixed up the production digital copy with an early draft and that got printed. It probably wasn’t noticed till well after they got all the books and and maybe even started sending out copies to folks.
Incidentally page XXX is in the WoD Malkavian clan book. Scrounge up a copy and all these DS references will make sense.
Oh @koraski, that makes more sense. I was preparing to watch Vin Diesel in his film of the same name looking for subliminal messages (what with him being a D’n’D player and all that!?!?).
Hold on… Page XXX isn’t a page full of boobs then? Damn it! Well, one can always hope….
There’s also at least one instance of something saying “insert picture here”. I have to say that although the typos don’t, by any means, make this game unplayable they do take the shine off what would have otherwise been a fantasic product. Apparently they will be reprinting the book with all errors corrected and that will be made available to backers – whether it’s free, discounted or full price I don’t know. With regards to shipping, me and my bro went 50/50 on a pledge for the game plus all add ons and some token upgrades – we received this… Read more »
Mantic have posted an update regarding the Adventurer’s Companion An updated version1.2 PDF is available now to download. They will also be reprinting the Adventurer’s Companion, both softback and hardback, which will take into account the corrections, however the content will not be altered. The pledge manager will be re-opened n the next week or so and if you want a copy of the reprinted book, you can order it from there. The reprint will ship in January, Mantic said they want to avoid sending during the Christmas period. There will be no charge for the reprint itself, but you… Read more »
eriochrome has produced a really comprehensive errata and faq on his blog: http://twilight40k.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/dungeon-saga-adventurers-companion.html?showComment=1448054991813#c5268610464163335618 So far it is far more comprehensive than anything from Mantic. Anyone wanting to make some use of the AC is advised to visit as they’ll have a hard job making sense of the AC otherwise – for instance the RAW for traps make taking a thief character pointles, and so forth. The list of incomplete or confusing rules really is pretty impressive. Makes one wonder how early a beta version got released of this book. Clearly any actual play testing was very limited, unlike the core… Read more »
A more discursive account of the problems with the AC is here: http://twilight40k.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/dungeon-saga-adventurers-companion_19.html Long tale short, not only are there typos and sme unclear rules, which could easilt be fixed in a second printing, but far worse there are just massive holes in the methodolgy for creating a fair dungeon to provide a fun game for two competing players. Now, someone who intends to use the AC as a springboard for a load of creative thinking – a sort of RPG-Lite if you will – will probably be OK with this. But that isn’t how the product is marketed really… Read more »
Warren’s enthusiasm is as always infectious but at times feels misplaced. Turning the pages we can see the “Page XXX” problem yet all i’m hearing is gushing praise. The AC as provided to backers (and probably at first to the retail chain too) is a mess of errors and badly written sections of rules. Are these unboxing videos paid for by Mantic?
I got my copy yesterday and just from a quick ook, I saw that there were regular page refernces like p. 28 instead of the XXX. Does this mean, I already got the revised edition?
Its a great product, but a flawed gem
Hopefully the reprint will arrive without the errors, concerned re some design issue with rules eg their. Thankfully as an ex avid DND DM I should be able to hand eave issues
