Hawk Talk Launch Assets For Dropfleet Commander
November 6, 2015 by brennon
Hawk Wargames have been going through some of the additional extras for Dropfleet Commander and in particular how the Launch Assets work in game. They also showed off the models which you can see below...
Some more on these particular assets in game...
"Each type of Launch Asset has a distinct role in the game. Fighters and Bombers are typically launched from Fleet Carriers, with the player choosing which to launch. Bombers attack enemy ships directly and can inflict crippling damage, especially against targets with low point defence (such as most frigates).
Fighters can be deployed to boost a ship's point defence, greatly reducing the bomber threat and protecting against enemy close action attacks."
"Torpedoes are much rarer, fired only by select ships in limited numbers. They are designed to be capital ship killers and are massive, building sized ordnance. They are built to shrug off enemy point defence, with heavy armour surrounding an explosive core.
Torpedoes punch into the centre of a ship before detonating, severely damaging battleships and dreadnoughts and destroying smaller escorts outright."
Each of these little ships are indeed very tiny but will be available in plastic to supplement your fleet on the tabletop. At this scale, as they point out, it would be very easy to add these to a force with a small amount of painting.
Will you be making use of these in your engagements?

Sweet. 🙂 Nothing like a swarm of fighters buzzing around battle cruisers. Adds a lot of flavour and tactics to the game.
You have to love attack ships, for that proper Star Wars space battle feel of nothing else, and torpedoes because they add another level to the space bound equivalent of submarine warfare aesthetic this game has going on.
This is all looking very nice indeed.
Funny, looks a lot like BFG.
Very glad they’re getting proper models. And in plastic too! They’ll look much better than tokens. I do hope they’ll do faction specific ones though.
I can live with generics at present – these look fine for UCM, ok for PHR but a bit iffy for the other two. Then again, they may be perfect for the resistance…. hmmmm
Swarms of them – yes. I was thinking more Battlestar Galactica (the reimagined version not the woeful 1970’s/early 80’s original), or Babylon 5 or some of the later Stargate series/Stargate Atlantis where big battles featuring capital ships and hordes of smaller craft were spectacular.
The best B5 example – when Earth Force tried to take B5 during the civil war. That was stunning, but the boarding scenes were quite shocking. Makes for great games…
The real question is:
how do i paint a 4,5mm model?^^
Carefully ; )
VERY 🙂
Quickly mate. 😉 hehe
We are still unaware of whether these will be in the starter game box, but as there isnt any contents relating to printed items, I would fathom a guess and say cardboard ones will be in the box. Which is great tbh, as im sure the box with contain different ones for the Scourge perhaps? 🙂
Great news!
Love that we’ll have real miniatures for those, it will change the dimenssion of the game.
However I’m a bit like broadside…. there is 4 races with 4 very distinctive appearance. I must say it’d be real nice to have 4 different launching assets pack. but then it’s a detail and can be something done after the kickstarter, but you got to admit it’ll be amazing.
Too right! Fighters are a must-have.
I think we saw the PHR cruiser that can carry the capital-ship killer torpedo in last night’s update. The Achilles class is very heavily armed.
