I must say that I am very impressed with the releases for 5th edition of Dungeons and Dragons that have been coming from Wizards of the Coast (WotC) this past year.

With the revamp of the system to the new books and adventure campaigns in hardback form has impressed me to no end and all of them have earned a place of honor on my shelf to be highlighted with other great tomes.

Their latest release is no exception either, the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide brings together in one volume amazing and interesting lore and information about some of the most recognizable lands  in all of D&D! We have all heard of Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep and Neverwinter, even if you are  not an RPG player it is likely you have played the video game versions or read one of the stories. Here are some of the highlights from the book:

  • Compatible with Rage of Demons storyline: Make characters for use with the Out of the Abyss adventure and fight back the influence of the demon lords in the Underdark below the Sword Coast.
  • Insider Information: Learn the background behind locations, such as Luskan and Gracklstugh, featured in the upcoming digital RPG, Sword Coast Legends, from n-Space.
  • Adventure in the Forgotten Realms: Discover the current state of the Forgotten Realms and its deities after the Spellplague and the second Sundering. You’ll also get updated maps of this area of the Realms.
  • Immersive Adventuring: This campaign sourcebook provides players and Dungeon Masters material for creating vibrant fantasy stories along the Sword Coast.
  • New Character Options: The book offers new subclass options, such as the Purple Dragon Knight and the Swashbuckler, for many of the classes presented in the Player’s Handbook, as well as new subraces and backgrounds specific to the Forgotten Realms.

With this one book, players and Dungeon Masters alike can expand upon those stories and create new and exciting adventures, that some of us have only dreamed about.

The lore and legends of the Forgotten Realms are now in your grasp along with the new and expanded character classes. Entwined in these 159 pages is everything you will need to have your adventure party busy for many months to come. WotC has renewed my love for D&D that I had lost for many years with some of the previous editions and I am looking forward to long winter nights to sit down around the table and adventure along the Sword Coast.

Have you tried Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition yet?
