Carmine Dragon Gets a Passenger!
July 23, 2011 by beerogre
Check out the new rider for the Warhammer Forge Carmine Dragon...
Here's what the desginers have to say about it:
The ‘Graveyard Rose’ Elspeth von Draken, Magisterix of the Amethyst College and arch-wizard of the Lore of Death. Von Draken is born of a long bloodline touched by the Winds of Magic, a bloodline that has produced both heroes and monsters in its time, and the Dark Lady of Nuln is undoubtedly one of the most powerful Amethyst wizards of the age.
Appearing as a spectre of death, gowned in robes so black as to be woven from shadow and bearing a keening scythe, forged with Dark magic, Magisterix von Draken has long been a hidden defender of the Empire, and her life and acts in its defence are shrouded in both secrecy and suspicion.
The model depict Elspeth von Draken riding a Carmine Dragon side saddle on a towering throne etched with detailed iconography of the Amethyst College and surrounded by alchemical familiar-cherubs.
... and of course there's some rules for it HERE...
Enjoy!
This model just went from excellent to truly outstanding. Despite their prices and nay-sayers, GW/FW still produce world class kits
I like the Carmen dragon and the rider looks good too
Except that why do dragon saddles always have backs twice the height of the rider
and I know it is a GW tm… but for cripes sakes, too many bloomin skullz!!! lol
umm… she’s arch-wizard of the Lore of Death, y’know. Skulls are somewhat to be expected.
Umm yes I realise that she is.
A skull or two would suffice
If the amount of skullz tm was an attribute of the arch-wiz of death, every building in the warhammer world would be the arch-wiz of death’s gaff lol
“The model depict Elspeth von Draken riding a Carmine Dragon side saddle on a towering throne etched with detailed iconography of the Amethyst College and surrounded by alchemical familiar-cherubs”.
Detailed iconography = skullz tm
man thats just the aesthetics of this company would all you ” why all the skulls ?”-sayers just stop, because you could also ask “whats with that anime-style-infinity game” or “man why do these privateer press guys have to make their Warmachine game so steampunky ?” …its just their things ! get over it !
Nothing to get over Amazing that some people will jump on you from their high horse, sorry dragon, just for a light hearted bit of banter. fwiw Some of us us don’t give negative scores just cos we happen to disagree with someone else’s POV also fwiw Don’t have any PP models Infinity sure looks cool, but none in the collection either And a final fwiw I think I said above that I liked very much the dragon and rider (as I do quite a few GW models) 😉 The skullz tm thing is just incredibly tired and cliched imho… Read more »
you dont get it, thats totally not like I meant this this is simply like you liked to understand this ^^.
this is GW all things are better with more skullz!!! An ex rackham sculptor i hear was in charge of this rather nice fig. I wonder how much this will be vs a reissue of the rackham titan dragon. FW charging under £80, bated breath for reissue fee. Or the CMON or even Heresy fig.
Be interesting to see if gw/fw ends up cheapest
Sorry forgot the sculptors name
Apparently it was her own private project on and off over the last three years.
Certainly looks the product of a labour of love imho
The sculptors are Edgar Skomorowski and Trish Carden
For a twenty foot model that would be a bargain 😉
I hate paying more than £40 for any mini, actually id rather not pay more than £10. Sadly that means both dragons probably gonna be out of my gaming budget- i dont hope for a titan dragon any more based on Legacies current prices. That plastic dragon from the dnd game is starting to look good.
Anyway for those with the cash dragon summer is looking good
Price for dragon released
http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/content.php?6259-prices-revealed-for-coolminiornot-gen-con-releases!
summary:
cmon dragon $250 so basically over £100 but its 20″+ high
also rackham minis prices 😉
Hydra $120 and Golem $80
At around £150 and 20′ of awsomeness as opposed to 8 inches of FW at £70, the CMON dragon is definatly a tempting buy and deffinatly worth the money.
I’ve got to say I reckon this is the most finely detailed model FW (and by extension GW) have ever produced. Just look at the lace shawl alone in the close-ups on the FW site. Just stunning.
oooooo….. this makes me want to go away from the vampires and move to empire, WHY MUST U TEMPT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not bad at all.
The quality of the sculpt of the rider doesn’t compliment the dragon. GW should let Trish have a go at doing the riders for the creatures she sculpts.
There’s just too much extraneous detailing to pick out. Less is more in my book.
Thanks mpcb94
Didn’t realise that the figure was by someone else.
TBH I don’t mind the rider at all and some of the more delicate detailing is a nice contrast to the power of the beastie.
i see wf as a oppertunity to splash out, be utterly stupid and buy that one model tht you really really really love, even if it is a ridiculous price, not something you wud buy every day. this model certainly fits the bill4 empire players and is suitable impressive to be a showcase model. But seeing as im an undead player, il be goin with the zombie dragon instead
