Ax Faction Announces It Is Closing

About a month back Ben had posted a story about the Steampunk Cowgirl miniature from Ax Faction that they had just released and there was favourable response.
Previous to that I had posted an article about their stunning miniature of the Nemesis miniature standing in the giant hand. There is no argument that they do incredible work. Well it was announced on Saturday that they are closing down their shop, due to other life commitments.
We were reminded that this was not their primary job and was started as a hobby which quick blossomed into something else. They have decided to shut down before it all came crashing down on them and ruined them on the fun and excitement of this incredible world of miniatures that we all love (that is why we are all here, isn't it?).
So, if you are a some of the lucky ones who own some of these miniatures treasure them and to Paul we saw god speed in your next adventure.

maybe they could talk with some other companies about taking on their range ?
We’re reminded that this hobby of ours is mainly very small one-man businesses, and that we need to support the “guy in his garage”… because no matter how “professional” they may look, apart from the three or four big ones (some of them who started out just like that, and remain an alliance of “guys in their garages”), that’s ALL there is.
yeah I agree, I like to help support the smaller independent companies,
which is why it’s extra sad to see one go down like this 🙁
it makes me wonder if there’s some way for companies like this to form a collective, to help share some of the production costs ?
It has been done, notably by Figone (a gathering of mostly french and spanish sculptors and painters with one website)…
CMON used to basically be a retailer for all those small brands, but now it’s quite different.
And of course there’s Hasslefree, now selling Red Box Game’s stuff. Stronger together, I guess, and sharing the means of casting, production and postage.
oh yes, I have got some minis from salute from the Figone catalogue guys 🙂
you can find some really great minis and larger scale stuff from them 🙂
Figone is great, all quality stuff from minis to books/dvds. I had no idea Hasslefree sold RedBox so thanks for the headsup!
Sad to see them go, they had some lovely mini’s always thought about getting just to paint..
Another victim of the economy… If one was able to live off that sort of thing decently, one presumably would. Alas, the niche where art and gaming overlap is a pretty small one !
Just been on the Figone site (wow).
Any chance of doing an article series on some of your favorite sculpts for painters and gamers (not that the two are always separate)?
A lot of these could become grand centerpieces for armies or skirmish games.
There are so many… And there’s always more coming every year ! I use some of my full tutorials as a showcase for the companies and sculpts that deserve attention, of course, and excellent sculpts are shown almost daily here on the Beasts of War news… but yes, it would be a nice idea for a weekly or monthly article. I will keep it in mind.
