Unboxing: Forge World Lucius Pattern Warhound Titan
September 8, 2015 by dignity
We have an EPIC sized unboxing as @deaddave once again joins John to take a look at another piece of his Forge World collection.
This time its the impressive Lucius Pattern Warhound-class Titan with so many parts Forge World themselves aren't sure how many there are!
When built (if Dave can muster the courage) this Titan will ooze with detail inside and out. A crew of five operates the Warhound and is packing serious firepower with its Plasma Blastgun and Vulcan Mega Bolter.
How would you tackle building the Titan?

Really nice looking kit, and now OOP so no chance of getting one 🙁
How would you cut off those huge resin pieces from the moulding process? A saw? A stupid question – how would you know where the model starts and the mould started?
Not a stupid question at all. Use a razor saw, sandpaper and a face mask to keep out the resin dust, cos it’s toxic.
One day…
So glad I have one. It is true that the Mars pattern is the only one available now. Not sure why they stopped casting it. Maybe the mars pattern fits with the warlord/knight look? Anyway, my efforts on one so far: http://imgur.com/a/qgOKM#lSAPI5x
This has taken a very, very long time. Access to workshop equipment such as pillar drills ect. is recommended for this kit. its not for the faint heart’d. It’s a labor of love. Great Kit.
Oh and advice for those going to build one: 1) It stands on its toes. Don’t make it flat footed. 2) The pelvis should be flat. Do what you will to the hips but if the join between the pelvis/body isn’t flat, you’re likely to have balance issues. 3) Pin everything.
Nice looking model there. Not into 40k at all but do like the looks of a well done model. Thanks for sharing.
Bejesus, that is a lot of resin. I wonder if FW offers a recycling program for resin flash.
Surely you build the feet first because that way if you run out of steam mid build you can then use them to make titan footprints on any terrain you build in the mean time 😉
If I had one, there’s a part of me that would want to make it a terrain piece and convert it so that it’s crashed/been downed, that way (especially if playing more skirmishy games such as Kill Team) all that lovely interior detail has a chance of getting shown off as minis would be able to move inside it.
Ooo nice. I’ll just run out and buy one…
…
…oh right. 🙁
Lol
It’s a bloody shame they stopped selling this kit as it’s sooooooo much nicer looking than the crap Mars pattern.
In fairness, when I filmed this, it was still available lol
I know. 🙂 I was only messing. 🙂
My my, that is one impressive kit. I have bought some FW stuff but nothing near that big. I must say that I felt a quite dual feeling at this unboxing. I think the kit (and the Mars and Reaver patterns as well) is extraordinary so on one hand I would like to buy a titan, on the other hand I know I realistically would never be able to put in the time to make it justice… and that would stress me out tremendously… 🙂 So, I fully understand why you both look a bit daunted by all the bits… Read more »
A great kit, Dave you sir are mad… watched this and couldn’t help weighing up a Warlord on ForgeWorld. I don’t know any 40k / HH fan who doesn’t like a Titan.
I’d do it for you Dave if you don’t mind waiting, and a cost 😛
Could be a new BoW series ‘Titan Build’ ! Bound to get at least 20 episodes out of that! 🙂
IMO loads better than the other one. I really hope they re-release it.
Impressive kit the spare throne really deserves to be used atop a shrine to the mechanicum terrain piece…where the hell would you start with the build o that piece thou. All the inside detail just begs to be shown off seems such a shame for most of it to be hidden away and rarely seen…
I got this model set about 10 years ago and still to complete! It really is a labour of love, the trouble is that 40k lost its way with me, and im still waiting for a revamped system comes along to my liking. Modelling wise, i would build roughly to a pose you like (including weapons) and pin the feet/hips to death – its the only way it’ll stay up long term. Plus, get an air brush if you want to retain your sanity…
That is a brilliant looking titan. the lucius warhound looks better armoured than the mars titan. It’s a shame it’s out of production.
John must acquire and do a vlog series of assembling and painting a warhound titan!
I would also start with the feet, then move to the main body/torso. For me when building kits with a lot of detail it’s important to see yourself making progress. Maybe do part of the torso then do some detail work or paint the interior bits, then back to something more tedious. As long as you make progress you’ll be motivated to keep at it, imo of course. Also, imo, an airbrush is a must, especially with the large featureless areas. You could do a lot with an airbrush that would take much longer with a brush. Good luck on… Read more »
Friend has a chaos one took him an absolute age to put together and paint, happens to be an incredible spray painter and I may be wrong but I think it isn’t straight out of the box either, some sculpting been done as well.
I know I will never buy one. How ever there is out on the interweb a set of card instructions to make one of card. I think I once priced it out at thirty or fourty something pounds for the card etc.
If anyone has one out there completed, painted or not could we see them????
It’s an impresive model, especially given that it’s resin. Just a crying shame they discontinued it. I’ve been looking at those titans for years now. But still… Yes, it looks impressive, but the kind of scale models you could get for that price puts it to shame. I realise that it’s a garage kit and so will always be more expensive. But that price still bites… If I ever got one, I’d start by thinking long and hard about how I want it posed. That will determine how you build the rest. Then It’s a matter of getting the feet… Read more »
It is beautiful kit that I can’t afford but man…. I could consider building it and painting for free just to lay my hands on it.
Here is a negative so if you get upset by them look away now. I personally would not purchase one even had I the funds. Why I here you cry. Because why would having seen the amount of cleaning up sanding down filling and sanding would you pay so much for a kit that has what my good friend Steve says is a Michael Angelo method of building??? Michael Angelo is reputed to have been asked “how he saw his sculptures in what was initially a lump of marble?” His reply was like the man overstated, “I simply cut away… Read more »
Well its the preparing that has actually put me off buying a warlord… Price, yeah its expensive, but I just couldn’t be asked with the inevitable nightmare of his sanding and cutting away that much resin!
I’ve built both a Warhound (chaos) and half of a Warlord titan (Legs), and believe it or not there is less cleang, sanding, and fitting on the Warlord titan! The model is very clean and goes together very nice and easy!
oh come on John, don’t wuss out
😉
