Star Wars: The Force Awakens X-Wing Set Now Official
September 4, 2015 by brennon
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens X-Wing set is now an official 'thing' with the coming of Force Friday where everything from the coming Star Wars films merchandise line goes on sale. See what you Fantasy Flight have shown off of the set...
A New Hope
As with the original X-Wing Miniatures Game Starter Set you get two TIE Fighters and the new X-Wing all of which are looking very snazzy with their new paint jobs and sculpts. The idea of the set is to be a taster, giving you a feel for the dog fights of Star Wars before you head off and buy whole loads of expansions.
The gameplay of X-Wing consists of a start phase where you plan out your movement secretly on discs. These are then revealed and you resolve other actions based on your pilot and upgrade cards.
As you can see above the different cards have abilities and other special statistics which make them interesting choices in your games of X-Wing. While there are tried and tested tactics in the game you can always find something special in and amongst the upgrades.
What I'd really love to see from Fantasy Flight are some proper scenarios for you to play rather than straight up dogfights. I'm aware that there are a few but it would be great to see some kind of campaign come out of the game with the new edition.
Will you be getting this?

Love the look of the new TIE fighters. The FFG article also say that all of the stuff in this set is fully compatible with the original game and expansions, so Resistance and Rebels can be used together, as can Imperial and First Order.
Don’t believe there are any changes to the rules. Sounds more like the rules have been cleaned up, possibly based on the FAQ I think all the special weapons rules have been added as well to the rules reference.
i don’t get how can you get a semi-circular air compressor for a jet engine!^^
It works using the force?^^
Yes…the force of COOL ;P
No air in space, so, not jet engines.
The new X-Wing aren’t really new. The designer for the original trilogy the late Ralph McQuarrie concept drawings had the X-Wing’s with half circle engine intakes, if you can get a hold of the book The Art of Star Wars A New Hope it shows all his original ideas and this was one of them.
From outside those look similar to previous once but I bet those are upgraded models.
Ordered already.
on the fence, but they do look good, and the pre-order price gets you movement templates, etc.
What I would like to see is a new, revised rule book that has all the new rules from all the expansions under one cover. A pdf From their Web page that they keep up to date would be excellent.
From the looks of things this does include rules for all of the new maneuvers added since the first starter came out, so I imagine the rulebook should be fully updated….
I am anticipating picking this up, its unfortunate that many of the fringe stores won’t be able to order until the 18th or something?
