Unboxing: New Hard Plastic Reliant & Stormclad!
August 26, 2015 by dignity
We had a bit of a surprise here in the studio today when Justin and John unboxed the Reliant and Stormclad Warjacks from Cygnar in Warmachine and found out that Privateer Press had taken a HUGE step in offering up the components on a HARD PLASTIC SPRUE!
New Cygnar Warjacks
These are the Warjacks in question that are now both available to buy from your local gaming stores and online. You can read a bit more of the fluff and background on them below but the REAL gem is in the way the kit comes together.
"By taking the impressive bulk and chassis of the Ironclad and adding powerful voltaic weaponry, the Stormclad and Reliant were born. The Stormclad is equipped with an accumulator that draws on the galvanic energies of nearby Stormblades to augment its impressive storm-powered generator blade.
The Reliant is built for versatility, whether enveloping the enemy with crackling electrical fields from a distance using its Stormbringer or driving the opposition to its knees with pulse hammer strikes."
The Kits!
The kits that Privateer Press are now using are hard plastic sprues giving you all the various weapon options and such. No metal, no weird plastic/resin hybrid. They also come with something that many Warmachine & Hordes boxes have been missing in the past and that's a proper set of instructions!
Not bad right? We think this is a great step for Privateer Press in the right direction and we can't wait to see what other models in the range are going to be packaged like this. The quality of sculpting has gone up ten fold at Privateer Press of late too meaning, especially when you look at their Warcaster models.
What do you think of the new sprues?
"No metal, no weird plastic/resin hybrid..."
well done PP! I want to see more! For Khador.
Great, lovely kit. I see a couple of these in my future, adding some more heavy punch to my lists.
I don’t mind a complicated model as long as there is a clear set of instructions. I agree with John on this the instructions are even more important/impressive than the move to plastic.
Wow! Huge leap forward from PP!
And you answered my questions about magnetisiing.
I had assumed that all Warmachine and hordes stuff was proper hard plastic. What’s the quality like on their other stuff then?
It’s resin and metal parts usually. And based on the feedback from some friends the quality can be very poor, especially considering the high price.
The material’s not bad, some of the mould lines are in horrific places though – and not just the thigh plates on the Khador heavies.
I’d have preferred a Merc kit for the first foray into hard plastic so everyone could use it, but this is a very impressive kit.
interesting looking kit.
love the change to plastic warjacks hoorah! will have to save some pennies and do some retail therapy……………….mmmm
Awesome decision Privateer. More plastic please.
Loving the plastic. I know I have had a disscusion with someone on how they like metal it gives gravitas to the machines. For me though the posable ways this could be converted with very little hard work it now being plastic, then this is for me thee way. I may even look at getting a some as in multiples.
Apologies if this was covered in the video, but does anyone know if the move to plastic will affect the price? i.e. Are plastic warjacks cheaper than their metal/resin counterparts?
I’ve never got into this game, not really anything to do with price, but was just wondering.
On Miniature Market site in the US it is the same exact price as the Heavy Warjack Kit (which is a resin-ish kit with 3 diff. build options).
Wow!
The lack of proper hard plastic kits was probably the one remaining obstacle stopping me embracing Warmachine wholeheartedly. While their resins are nicely detailed, the mouldlines can be an absolute nightmare. Plastic, though, is a joy to clean-up and convert and I’m now really hoping they bring out some Cryx kits soon.
Decent instructions is a huge step forward as well, now I can convert some of my other friends too! Well done PP, I think we may have a long and beautiful future together.
Nice unboxing – being surprised on camera is a good move. If you can do more unboxing where you are seeing it for the first time on camera – you do anyway – the better.
This is nearly enough to get me back into buying Warmachine stuff – although I do have a lot already.
I need to add this one to my steadily growing Cygnar force.
The convergence battle engine was released in hard plastic back in February but i don’t know if anything else has been.
Is that a casting defect on the left elbow @justin ?
The hard plastic looks super and is a great direction/material for Privateer Press to wade into. Games Workshop was king of all wargaming for their amazing hard plastic sprues both in terms of detail and design. It’s fun to see some other companies like PP, Mantic and Malifaux learning to make hard plastic sprues and offer some rival products.
Nice to see a firsthand review of something brand new. Thanks, Beast of War!
DEEEEEELLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIICIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUSSSSSSS! Yep that’s a word, 😛 truly delicious, i love sprues so much that i tend to rub them all over my chest ( is my method for removing moldlines, don’t judge me! ). I hope as you say in Weekender XLBS they do two starter armies and more starter boxes… including magnets would be nice, that would make it 100% perfect and the instructions are great. It seems this will all be done in China, so it will get cheaper, more bits and/or with more detail!
Yay! PP has finally the grown up world of miniature companies.
