Looking for a new game to play with your mates? Well look no further than Cutthroat Caverns, the dungeon crawling card game from Smirk and Dagger Games.
In this game you and your friends are trying to make good your escape with some sort of priceless arifacts. However, standing in your path are no less than nine creatures. You will need to work as a team to survive, but then what's the point of surviving if someone else gets the glory.
What ensues is a game where players jocky for position to place the killing blow, supporting the team when it is in their favour to do so and backstabbing everyone when it isn't.
I think that this game looks as if it could be alot of fun and would definitely like to get a copy of it in the office. The rules themselves are available to download from the Smirk and Dagger's site which is perfect if you want to get an idea of how the game play is before forking out for the game itself .
How do you guys think this will play out? Would you be interested to give it a go? If you are click the following link to the rules, read over them and let us know your opinions.
Really is a stellar game this. Bought the first set a few months back and we have played it after most of our sessions. Funny, and has that edge of being incredibly backstabby as well as carrying the essence of teamwork. Glad this got an airing on BoW – deserves it.
Also, another one from their company that is really good – Hex Hex. Such a wonderfully simple game, and yet so much fun. A proper geek/dork/gamer party game.
Cutthroat Caverns gets a fair amount of play at boardgame night at my FLGS. I’ve never been too keen on it personally. I like my games either cooperative or competitive, but not both. Just a personal preference, and most people seem to enjoy it. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes semi-cooperative games.
Cutthroat Caverns is a great game. I think it was said on turn 8 that you blokes have played Munchkin before. Cutthroat Caverns is just as backstabby as Munchkin but just a much better game design all around. Also this game has the most evocative tagline of its game play of any board game I have seen. “Without teamwork, you will never survive. Without betrayal, you’ll never win.” sums up the game perfectly.
