Wargames Illustrated have given us a look inside the box for Osprey Publishing's first big board game - The King Is Dead. Placed in historical terms after the death of Arthur this game has you trying to gain control of Britain with one ruling faction...

The King Is Dead

As you can see the game has a very Euro look to it, something I think will appeal to a lot of gamers. It is also very small - apparently working well on any 2x2 tabletop. The artwork is also stunning and I love the look of the map and the cards.

The King Is Dead Close-Up

In game the players will be using their eight cards from their hand to bid for power and take cubes 'influence' from the various factions into their own court. Interestingly you don't play as one particular faction but instead find yourself allying (or trying to ally) with whoever is in the ascendancy. Sounds very Game of Thrones...

It all sounds like a very neat Historically themed game that might be worth adding to your collection. I am certainly going to look at giving this a try.

What do you think?
