Harebrained Schemes Bringing BattleTech To PC
July 31, 2015 by brennon
Later this autumn Harebrained Schemes are going to be bringing BattleTech back to PC with a Kickstarter that will aim to get big robots smashing the hell out of each other...
From Harebrained Schemes...
"Jordan Weisman, the creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, is back with the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over two decades. Steeped in the feudal political intrigue of the BattleTech universe, the game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics."
It all sounds very fun indeed and it's good to see them keeping with the turn-based style of battling. It means my PC might actually be able to hold up and play the game when it comes out. We look forward to hearing more about this as we do love big robots.
Will you be keeping an eye on this?

Sounds good, their Shadowrun games (two brilliant ones and a third on the way) are great so I have faith they can do some justice to Battletech.
I expect an isometric Unity engine game, no bad thing but I’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if it’s anything else. (I would love it to be a more visceral fully 3D World of Tanks affair but with turn based mechanics… Yum!)
THIS. Anything has to be better than the debacle that was MechWarrior Tactics.
I felt like that game had some promise but.. well, then it went *poof* along with the money I had invested in one of the founders pack. So.. yeah.. I could do without that. I have to agree with @dice though – HBS have a good track record so far so I’m certain this will be a good game, even if it doesn’t end up being the simulator that a lot of MW fans have been waiting for.
Did it ever actually launch? I get the Mech Warrior Online newsletters but don’t remember reading anything past ‘beta is coming if you buy this pre-order pack’.
I’m very interested to hear what HBS have planned for Mechwarrior though, not a prperty I thought they’d go for but could be interesting.
Mechwarrior Tactics never got out of beta. If I recall correctly the original development team stopped working on it and a new team were brought in later on but I don’t think there was any money left. It coasted for a few more months, loosing momentum every day, and then the website went offline and that was that.
Its good to see Battletech is still getting some PC love ..I remember playing something called mechcommander, a realtime isometric view game that would have done well with a multiplayer component. Love isometric turn based so that would be nice 🙂 I also have fond memories of heat sink management in the superb Mechwarrior2 game series 😛 best played with mouse and keyboard imo.
I’m not remotely interested in Battletech and its aesthetic has never appealed, to me it looks very dated.
But, the above artwork is lovely.
It will never be as good as Crescent Hawk’s Inception! Never I tell you!

Yesssss.
Finally a game that embraces all the best aspects of Battletech. The intrigue and the amazing univrse.
Am I excited? Yes. AM I Excited? Yes!! AM I EXCITED? HELL YEAH!!!
Am I hoping not to be disappointed? Nah, it will be awesome. 😀
I am carefully excited about this. I do wonder if MW5 is still being made or did it get cancelled.
I hope it stands to compete with Mechwarrior Online though.
