Conquering Kings of War – Demo Game: Dwarfs Vs Undead
July 24, 2015 by dignity
It's time for action on the Kings of War battlefield as Justin pits the might of the Dwarf army against the Undead hordes controlled by Rich from Mantic Games. Who will win this epic contest?
If you want to get in on the action the rules and army lists for both factions (and more!) are free to access so you can be having your own epic battles with minimum fuss:

Justin which version of KOW did you use for your army list? The Cannon in newest iteration is D6+2.
I might start taking a shot of whiskey for every error I see you guys have spotted but I do not think I have enough bottles in the house.
Great Video!
Shouldn`t you roll a Nerve test every time since double 6 means the enemy routs?
Yeah, old rules and rules wrong number of wounds on the zombies turn one 8 instead of 10.
Disordered after Close ombat, no shooting 😛 Technically you could just have charged and attacked but you woulndt have gotten the +1 for close range.
Awesome video guys! Keep fighting!
Awesome game! How much fun was that?
Lots!
I got carried away and missed a lot of simple things…Evil Dead rule anyone????
Lloyd and Warren could have used this game to flatten the bottom of that schooner.
Great video me and the guys are going to be getting into this game.. ONLY thing about this video is all the time im looking at the back ground at all my shermans I left behind with you guys :CRIES:
I loves me some demo game videos. I can watch these all day, no matter whether I know the game, play the game, like the game, any of that. This is what I watch instead of golf or football.
Already laughing just two minutes in.
Zombie Horde? wha-what? Horde? Hmm . . . that is a lot of zom-zoms. 😀
Great job, guys!
I could be wrong but as far I was aware
the only restriction from the shambling special rule is that they cannot be ordered at the double. Thus they still charge upto double there move.
Unless that has changed in the second editon if so please feel free to correct me.
You are correct 🙂
Nice game – I should really find the time to get some in
Hey guys- great battle, and nice to see the Dwarfs hold on for the win at the 11th hour in true stubborn fashion!
Couple of things for next time around- Dwarfs are Headstrong and ignore Wavering on a 4+, and you can only use Inspiring to force a re-roll if a unit Routs; not if it Wavers!
30 dice seems to be confusing – if I’m not mistaken the first two rolls had one more hit which you guys did not see / count 😉
I saw those 5’s! It hurt me each time he swept them away!
Armstrong must not play games when that tired!
Great, miracle after miracle. First you regrew your beard and then you pulled the game out of the fire.
Btw, how did you make those counters?
Heh, Heh. Good catch!
“He’s a… weak little wizard”. Perhaps it’s because it’s late but this…. this made me laugh. Alot. (around 29 mins in)
The only thing i dislike about KoW is having to roll silly amounts of dice and the excesive randomness that produce, the game in general is really good and very simple but for example you throw 30 dice -> you throw 10 dice -> end up with one wound. In this video you guys said time and time again “This shouldn’t have happen” compared with Warmahordes, it never happens something that shouldn’t happen, sometimes you roll bad but no matter how poorly you roll ( unless it is abysmally bad ) things will happen around of what you expected (… Read more »
Actually, the more dice you roll, the more ‘normalized’ the results become (that is, the more the mean approaches the true average), and the less often the extreme results should occur. Honestly, saying “that shouldn’t have happened” = “bad at averages”. If you hit on a 5+, wound on a 5+, and you throw 30 dice, get 10 hits, then get 3 wounds, that’s exactly average. Deviating +/- 2 on that is not a huge deviation given that sample size. So to say “that shouldn’t happen” – that’s just wrong. “Unlikely” is a more proper term, but again, with the… Read more »
That should read: You don’t see “I made 30 attempts and only 1 succeeded.”
Great looking game. Well done guys.
Haven’t played so don’t know the rules but surely cavalry charging a cannon and inflicting a wound should not then go back an inch and allow a cannon to fire at them. I would imagine that in that case the combat sticks and the cannon should be unable to fire. It just seems a little silly to me. Is this the same for the new rules?
I haven’t played either, but I think the game design philosophy was for fast, simple play – sacrificing real world mechanics that would add too much complexity. Its more a game than a simulation.
Great demo game guys!
Yea, couple of rules mistakes, but that was a great game to watch. Well done!
gazky, That was actually an error. When a unit is charged and takes damage, they are disordered. Disordered units cannot use ranged attacks and don’t get the benefit of Thunderous Charge.
Well immediately that makes it feel better in my mind 🙂 it just seemed silly as they played it. Cheers for clearing it up
I think there was some confusion on the 1 vs skull on the off white dice too. All in all a fun game and a good batrep. Hope to see a lot more KoW!
This demo game, I think, shows how Kings of War can scale while not becoming overly complex. This was a small game, but I can easily see a much larger game being played quickly, especially when whole blocks of troops are affixed to unit bases.
There is still a fun game here without a complex ruleset. You still have dice roll drama, sound effects, and moments of triumph and blunder manifested by the imaginations of the players.
Lost count of the number of errors in this game right down to 7+3=9 :/ could have been over in turn 3 if Justin hadn’t moved forward to prolong the game due to the force selection for a demo. Not a good gameplay example guy’s.
Did they have fun?
Yes 🙂
I think everybody had fun, including watchers like myself, which is the most important. 🙂
lots of errors but lots of fun. Long live the King!
Now go make us more KoW battle vids people 😀
