The Crimson Apostle & Invictarus Suzerains New From Forge World
July 24, 2015 by brennon
Forge World have two new sets of models for you today on both sides of the Horus Heresy conflict. The first is Zardu Layak & The Anakatis Kul Blade-Slaves with the second being the Ultramarine Invictarus Suzerain Squad facing off against them. Boiling blood and hate versus pride and honour...
Dark Gifts
These traitors to the Emperor are looking particularly gifted by the Dark Gods as the first set of new miniatures for today. I particularly like the way they've done the mutations as they aren't too over the top.
"Suffused in dark powers which he used freely to destroy minds and bodies, Zardu Layak walked his bloody path accompanied by a pair of bodyguards, each unnaturally warped and contorted and possessed of great strength.
Wielding the Anakatis blades, gifts bestowed upon them by Layak and weapons of unholy xenos influence and malevolent power, they cut a swathe through their master’s foes in a barely controlled hunger for slaughter."
These are quite important figures in the story of the Horus Heresy and pop up during the Battle of Calth. If you were looking for deadly Chaos warriors then you have quite the set.
Honour Your Chapter
Holding against the tide of darkness are some very impressive Ultramarines called the Invictarus Suzerain. I swear they name these squads so they are near impossible to type quickly...
The squad comes armed with legatine power axes, boarding shields and bolt pistols for when things get a little hairy and they need some extra firepower.
"Chosen to be the living embodiments of their Primarch’s rule, Invictarus Suzerains are equipped with some of the finest weapons and wargear their Legion possesses.
Their ornate armour shines with the light of Guilliman’s wisdom and authority; their exquisitely wrought boarding shields hold anarchy and disorder at bay and the Legatine power axes they wield with deadly effect dispense instant judgement upon any who would dare to defy their Primarch’s will.
I think they've done some sterling work on these models as whatever you want to say about the Ultramarines they do have some of the best looking miniatures. I particularly like the helmets that are emblazoned with the Aquila as a faceplate.
Will you side with Chaos?

those traitor marines need to go 40k standard without the FW gold embossed pricing, appluads for those … they are just missing some heavy weapons to bring to the party. Must say the ultra minis are finely balanced when it comes to details imo, not overdone. If these are specialised in boarding actions i could actually agree this might be fitting equipment, even thought the pistols look like afterthoughts.
The Word Bearers are gorgeous. Must have.
Is this the Goretide, and Sigmarines!? I’m so confused these days…
That fluff is so terribly written. When are they going to hire an adult to do that?
However, the Horus Heresy rule books are beautifully written.
Horus Heresy is critically acclaimed!
You still crying about me expressing an opinion of Tolkien that doesn’t tally with yours @poosh ? Because from where I’m standing that looks like a dig.
I literally defended the HH books supporting your comment, and you take that as a dig. By Sigmar I give up.
That being said I did misspeak, the HH novels are not critically acclaimed, their authors are though – and many of them appear in the New York Times Best Sellers.
@poosh I’m genuinely sorry if I misinterpreted your post. The trouble is, when half your replies to things I write are taking the p*ss, I unfortunately assume they all are.
Actually, the horus heresy series has appeared in UK and US science fiction charts, have occupied high positions in Nielsen BookScan genre lists, and since early 2010 have often charted in The New York Times Bestseller List (often within the top 20) for mass-market paperbacks.
Oh, and that’s a fact. Not an opinion presented as a fact 😛
Its a bit like reading an 80s He-Man commercial with two kids duking it out with their action figures
But hamsters on cocaine are much cheaper!
More great looking Horus Heresy models from FW.
Not keen on the Chaos minis, but the UM squad is awesome. Love the bolters – are they ‘built-in’ to the shield? Very tasty.
Like the new ultramarine troops good for extra honour guard but love the shields.
The prices were silly before, but now they’re ridiculous! £60 for 5 marines with shields? Not even 5 special terminators are that much :'(
Yup £12 a squad member is silly money. That said if people will pay it then they will charge it. Would love to get into HH but just can’t justify the expense, really hope that rumored plastic HH starter set comes to be. That could be this years spacehulk like release although if it came to a choice between hh and necromunda would have to go with the underhive over marine vs marine with old helmets and studs. Do like the vehicles though….
The real sad fact is that if there was any I would get it was Ultramarines, just not for that price. Especially if this will be the pricing for future releases too, they’ve officially priced me out…
The chaos fanatics are growing on me
Fantastic models. While I like the mutated chaos guys, my preference is still for the awesome (though eye-wateringly expensive, but that is Forge World for you) Ultramarine Invictarus Suzerains.
