Warzan just enjoys your toys in a good narrative game of 40K.
I agree with you it’s cool to add narrative to game with this kind of thiings.

@warzan i think they have been withdrawn from the range that is why they are so pricey

I’m not sure I like the idea of looking at Lloyd’s “pole down below”!

You definitely need a ‘Schrodinger’s Guard’ rule; when you open the box you have to see if the troops are still alive or if you simply have guard soup dribbling out the front.

Schrodinger’s Guard. Awesome! GW has to make that official. 😀

Awesome, I started playing 40K first edition. Back then it was encouraged to go to your local hobby store & convert anything that would fit your imagination. I like that in a wargamen. Nowadays 40K is very limited in my opinion. I like the facht that you realy don’t care and still think out of the box. Happy Gaming

Awesome @warzan! I like narrative gaming. It adds a lot of fun to the game imo.

I guess I just don’t understand Lloyd’s issue. It retains its toy functionality? If the functionality fits with the narrative you are trying for than great. I guess Lloyd would only be happy if it no longer does anything that it was originally designed for.

You know, watching Warren enjoy the hell out of playing how he wants to play is infectious. If I were his opponent, I would also be having a great time. Interacting with the toy sled on the table and adding mouth sound effects adds to the fun that a game should be.

100% chance that the men that deploy in those would refer to them as “Dead Sheds”. Or “Aluminum Coffins”.

It’s a hell of a lot of guns for a “drop coffin”…

If you give them smoke launchers, make sure it’s not too heavily armoured as it starts to be really cheesy.

The idea is cool, though. Just don’t over-do it. 😉

Call them Mobile Firebases.

Or Corrals (Cav theme).

My only issue is the flip open needs a LOT of room, hate for it to clip a fig and take an arm off (or whatever).

I like it. But it definitively needs some seats. They could be just like a beam on the side, so they don’t get in the way, when deploying the minis in the middle.

Or the handles need to be up high on the sides. Imagine the guys standing on the middle ground holding on to a rail or handles on the sides over their heads. Like when driving a bus.

Can you imagine not letting go of the handles as it pops open, arms torn off, or if your lucky flung out screaming into the battlefield. Which causes the enemy to run away because they believe the imperium now fires its actual guardsmen at its enemies.

Muahaha. That made me laugh harder than I’m willing to admit. Thanks for that image 😀

I think there is a Commissar Cain story where he and the Valhallans have to stop a horde of orks from storming up the side of crashed spaceship into the hold. They have blown the side of the spaceship off to create a ramp and then have fortified the lip with heavy weapons etc. You pretty much have that in miniature there 🙂 especially with the rules for staying in coherency with the weapons teams. I think it works!

In my opinion, the guard would probably drop these by parachute. They would probably use the flyer to drop them off in less risky conditions to create forward defense posts etc. But I can definitely imagine the guard parachuting these in using a halo drop kind of technique. Parachutes would work quite well for rules as well, because it could randomise where it lands.

These look really good. Personally I see the Elysian Drop troops (already from forge world) would use them alongside the actual drop troops. Think parachute troops and glider troops in WW2.

Actually, just reminding myself, what you’ve got with the Dragonhawk looks and sound a lot like the Valkyrie Skytalon (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Navy/VALKYRIE-SKY-TALON_.html)

Dare I say…. I like @lloyd‘s idea of a box that drops with a single door…

@warzan, the unfolding one would be cool as a forward ops base….

🙂 nice job so far 🙂

@warzan love the (vomit comet)? don’t see why it cant be deployed from the lander the undercarriage would take most of the force out of the landing plus like air dropped supply’s today have a disposable base to cushion loads which is replaced for the next deployment.
@Lloyd isn’t all the models technically toys if they look the part why not?

I’m thinking along the same lines as @peachy said. They unfold to be built on to after the battle and are converted to bunkers, command post, or other various buildings you’d have on a forward operating base.

The game has got to be fun or what is the point. “Drop Lander” is cool. A bit Orkish. However, it is not far off what was done in WWII.

Love the brotherly bickering in this update. 🙂 The discussion is wonderful, but it’s all a bit pointless. You guys just want to play this vehicle in different ways, which you can.
@warzan is all for deploying forward and using the glorious assault strategy, while @lloyd is staying true to IG doctrine and likes to play defensively.
I think the choice of deploying forward or backwards is the main benefit to this vehicle. Actually it works in a similar way how some players use Space Marine assault vehicles.

with warren all the way …..got 4 dustbins of kids toys (im a addict too)……if you got the imagination anything is possible …..and remember somebody sat down and dreamed up all the standard kit too ….its all sci-fi

As I said in the other thread, this is very much in the spirit of 40K as it was when I was introduced to it. Finding something cool, making something cool, inventing and being creative. So much of that has been lost over the years.

If you and your friends agree to have fun in this way, I’m 100% for it. Everyone just has to respect everyone else’s preferences (wouldn’t the world be better all around?).

erm. They are all toys. We are grown men playing with toy soldiers.

sorry @Lloyd but @Warren is right here. drop pods dont have any armour when open too why you dont comment on that too in this case. Its veri Imperial guard to do it this way, no commmissar woud create drop container lak this closed because guardmen would use it as cover instead assault.;

@warzan I think you might secretly be ‘Merican with the rate at which you glue ‘stand your ground’ pistols all over your IG builds. 🙂 My favorite is the cockpit pistol – is that really for the commissar when the pilot won’t open the door?

I like Mobile Fire Base as the ID, it would be cool to use the term MFB’s while gaming; however, it’s not mobile if it can’t move on it’s own. Perhaps Deploy-able Fire Base (DFB)

im coming on to the idea. mobile fire base? mobile command base? deployable supply base?? so many possibilities.
