No Change In Scale For Robotech Tactics
June 30, 2015 by stvitusdancern
Today Palladium Books announced via the Robotech RPG Tactics Facebook page that there will not be a change in scale to 15mm, despite the big poll / announcement that was made via their Kickstarter page.
I know there has been a lot of speculation for the scale to change from its current 6mm (1/285) scale to a larger scale. Many thought by making the miniatures somewhat larger, that they might be produced differently or easier to put together. Recently Warren and Justin had spent part of a Weekender XLBS speaking in length about this game and some of the concerns regarding the sprues in the base game.
From their point of view the sprues were not too difficult to assemble, and I know others may disagree, with that there was rumblings of a rework of the sprues and an increase in scale. What I can say is when you can spend a little time with the current ones you can assemble some nice looking miniatures.
With GenCon right around the corner, it will be interesting to see what else is coming down the pipeline. We will see if we can grab a quick word with the guys from Palladium Books. What ever the case, I would love to see this game develop and grow, it is a cool universe and I grew up with the Macross series.
What are your thoughts on the current scale of Robotech RPG Tactics?

Scale is fine. Just need to be a little more careful removing the parts from sprue and assembling the minis than say a GW space marine. Nice wee minis for any Robotech fan..
I recall the change was supposed to be only for the..mospead? Whatever the 2nd anime the Robotech mauled was called. Still, I feel like it’s a bit of a non-issue…just how many people were interested in anything but the Macross minis in the first place?
You might be able to build some nice minis off those sprues, but that image you’ve used between the box-art and the picture of the sprue is horribly mis-leading as without extensive cutting and green-stuffing you can only build two of those poses – straight-legged or with the right leg bent. Warren & Justin may have found the sprues easy to work with, but that was one or two they built. As the mecha they would be asking players to build three separate minis for every one they fielded, those Veritechs should have been a LOT simpler… And bear in… Read more »
This “news” is sourced from a fan run facebook page with no actual reference because the guy who runs the page deleted the thread, that supposedly had the comment, from some Palladium employee. With zero updates to the Kickstarter backers, who Palladium tries to avoid like the plague, it’s rumor at best. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me at all this is the case.
Regardless, the scale question should never have been a thing. It speaks volumes about Palladiums already well documented incompetence.
I don’t think 15mm would work for this game. The mechs would be huge at that scale. I have a 20mm destroid model and it’s the size of a knight titan!
I don’t think the scale was truly in question. Honestly, I’m curious if the fans writing to PB are the same ones complaining about everything else with the project and got tired of saying “where’s wave two?” I think the 6mm scale works well for the game and I’m happy with what I was able to get out of the miniatures so far.
It should have been 10mm from the start. And they are easy to put together the recon pod though is the bane of my life.
The Recon pod is a bit rough with all of those tiny antennae and sensor bits. The rest of the models I’ve assembled so far are fine, especially if you use the much more detailed assembly instructions that can be gotten for free from RPGnow. Until the recon pod the worst part was matching up arms for the Guardian and Battloid modes of the Valkyries.
Seriously i cant see why there is such a problem with the sprues as they are. Maybe its just me but i like building model kits from sprues and i feel im getting my moneys worth from them.
The Robotech RPG Tactics page is a fan run site, not Palladium.
That site is run by a guy that loves to make up rumors, post them and then when enough people get fed up with it he takes them down.
Just like he took this one down.
