Unboxing: Flames Of War StuG G Platoon
June 23, 2015 by dignity
John is back in his comfort zone as we take a look at the German StuG G Platoon for Flames of War. A box set of five tanks which can be built to either a early or late war design.
The StuG G III was produced between 1942 - 1945 and as such contains early and late versions of the hull, main gun and mounted machine gun. The box also contains a tank commander sprue and a decal sheet.
Early or Late; how would you build your platoon?
If play Russian you will have to buy twice as much as any other army! that said they are really cool! With the new starter set a Russian tank company will be really quick to buy check out these articles from the guys at Breakthrough assault. the first is how to get playing with the box and the second is how to make a complete and good army.

Might have to add a platoon to my fledgling army…. when I clear the backlog of everything else….. oh the shinies! 😀
Love the Stug III . The bumps on the late hull roof are mounts for the tripod Pilsen crane used to remove the engine . Most late war Pz IVs . Panthers and Tigers had the mounts . The ” hatch ” with the track sections is actually the late Stugs exhaust fan ,early version was mounted on the hull roof . John have you had a chance to see / build the Rubicon 1/56 Stug ? Fantastic kit .
Honestly it is the historical knowledge John delivers which make these unboxings interesting to me. So please let John continue with the historical knowledge.
Never let them silence you, John! Always wax lyrical on historical armor whether or not you’re “supposed to.” As far as 10:00 goes, no “corrections,” 🙂 although I’d always take the opportunity to “throw something” at Justin. 😀 I actually wanted to buy this kit last year but they were out of stock at the time. I had to “settle” for a couple of StG-IIIF resin kits (no schurzen) and use extra schurzen kits off my a plastic platoon of PzKpfw IVH. Worked well enough, although no German army can ever have too many StGs. As John says, the Germans… Read more »
This is a better kit than the original BF all plastic StuG – I hated that infernal add-on muzzle brake. How about a comparison unboxing with the Plastic Soldier Company offering in the same scale?
The Zvezda StuG III B is a decent wee kit for the early war versions and will not break the bank.
I’d also be interested to read about a comparison with the PSC Stugs.
Also, please do an unboxing of the new plastic Strelkovy! 🙂
like.
Tell me guys… What is the point of having a history buff unbox historical minis and NOT let him go on about them for as long as he pleases?!?!
I couldn’t agree more! 🙂
Tell us a tale Tank God of the age of mighty steel beasts roaring through the countryside spewing flames of destruction. Always entertaining John.
I swear I read the title to this as ‘Unboxing: Warzan’s StuG G Platoon’. 😀
A very nice, concise unboxing John & Justin. I concur with others re: historical narrative highly sought after. If this were a 40K unboxing would there not be ample ‘fluff’ to describe it’s context?
One minor feedback:- As these clips are quite short, agree before filming on the questions that will be raised about the product so that the ‘expert’ speaker will have an accurate response, rather than a standard ‘I believe so’. Not wishing it to become too obviously rehearsed, but be as all encompassing as is possible, given the short time remit! Well done chaps!
This may seem like an odd request but could anyone supply me with the dimensions of the Stug in the review. It’s just a friend of mine recently found a maker of very passable armour in a what looked like 15mm at an extremely fantastic price of £1.99 each. Clip together models are SU100, Panzer 4 or 3, TIGER, Stug and for reason an Abrahams. By another producer different scale a “challenger” in what might pass as 28mm again at under I believe 2 of your earth pounds. Give the dimensions I promise to give you the name of the… Read more »
“Why are the WW2 unboxings so long?”
Because they’re bloody interesting and full of historical context! We’re not all space elves.
Sorry 40K guys…. No really. A bit sorry. 😎
Surely the sexiest Not a Tank tank of all times 😉
If only their plastic German infantry would be as nicely sculpted as this beauty..I might get more into 15mm.
I like when John goes historical, this is what defines you guys from other shows too. if someone dont liked there is stop button on the bottom of screen.
Keep the history chat in. Honestly.
Ahhhh the beauty of things long gone. Not really sure if I’m talking about the StuG or Justins beard.
Otherwise a great unboxing and interesting history lesson. Don’t let them stop you John!
I don’t mind the historical banter. A bit of context makes these unboxings more interesting.
