Rally Around The Flag Hits Kickstarter From Lost Battalion Games
June 12, 2015 by stvitusdancern
There is another game that is changing how battles are being fought on the tabletop, it is now the subject of a Kickstarter campaign. The game is called Rally Round the Flag, and this time it is the battle of Gettysburg of the American Civil War, which many consider the cornerstone of the sway of momentum in the war.
The battle had the Army of the Potomac with Gen. Meade in command facing the Army of Northern Virginia commanded by Gen. Lee. The battle lasted three days and saw an incredible loss of life by both sides to include Gen. Stonewall Jackson.
Now Lost Battalion Games is helping to bring this game to life. along with the beautiful artwork from S. Craig Taylor Jr. and Mort Kunstler. This game takes tabletop wargames to an incredible level by allowing "zooming" into the battle by going from a division map to a brigade level map and finally to a regiment map.
It has a card mechanic that influences the tide of battle and not control it. The playing pieces are made of MDF and the game boards are based on a hand painted survey map of Gettysburg in 1872.
Depending on the level you pledge you will get over 1000 playing pieces and the game is played over anywhere from 3 to 40 hours, yes you read that correctly possibly 40 hours, the level of detail is amazing as you can track losses, ammunition supplies and others details a good general needs to know.
If you are into historical games that play on a grand scale this might just be the game for you.
Do you have what it takes to change the outcome?

Id really like to back this but it looks like a $1000usd($900 early bird) for the full game with the regimental level, brigade and divisional levels. As much as you get and as cool as the pieces and everything looks thats just way to much. The Brigade level for $150 might be possible but thats still kinda high. Looks awesome tho and I really like the look of the standees over plastic figures. Maybe if I hit the lotto.
I agree this does look awesome. I think you basically need to be in a historicals club and/or have a group of friends who want to go in on this with you to get the max bang for the buck. The entry level “mini” game just doesn’t seem to be worth it. I’d love to still be near a gaming club that could pull off 40 hour 12 man games … ahh those were the days. These days I’m lucky if I get some mini skirmish gaming in once a month, or a weekly 4 player board game in, etc.
I hate to be the history-nazi, Gianna, but Stonewall Jackson died after the battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. Gettysburg was fought in July. Jackson’s absence was arguably one of the many factors contributing to the poor execution of the Confederate battle plan at Gettysburg. As a side note, I have the old Gettysburg Avalon Hill game from the 1977 which allows an alternate history scenario of the battle wherein you can field Jackson’s first corps as a part of the Confederate army. Never used that particular scenario, but it would be a fun to try sometime. I may just… Read more »
You are correct, I not sure how I was trying to relay that info but it came out wrong. Sorry I’m under the influence of cold medications
No worries. Hope you feel better soon!
