Unboxing: Terminator Genisys Miniatures Game With Alessio Cavatore
June 4, 2015 by warzan
Join Warren and Alessio as they break open a copy of the Terminator Genisys Miniatures Game from River Horse and distributed by Warlord Games.
We've all been waiting to see what this master game designer would do with this monster IP and from the looks of things he's on to a winner.
There are some cool game mechanics, hard plastic miniatures and a chance for every hobbyist out there to work on a ruined city board!
Would you join the Human Resistance or the Endoskeletons of Skynet?
Let us know!

I was doing my own unboxing at the same time as watching yours!
I have to say, the Kyle Reese mini is significantly larger than the plastics. Hopefully it won’t look too odd once I’ve popped some paint on.
I’m a bit disappointed that the map is paper. It would be so much better to have tiles or something like that (a lot of games are going that way). It just has a cheap feel with a paper map and it won’t last many plays before it is ripped I’m sure.
That’s a fair point, but this is very much the wargame not really a boardgame (at least in my eyes) so I haven’t considered the map or little barriers much 🙂
finally a cool video for terminator, the pics on the warlord site dont really do it a lot of justice.
looking forward to the humans coming out seperately, think they could make up the bulk of my ‘rebs’ force for warpath
Question. Will Reese be the only metal mini or will all the characters be metal? (I’m not a fan of resin)
This video has done a lot to pitch me the game. I’m looking forward to seeing a playthrough. On a side note:
Is Alessio omnipresent? His name is on nearly all the games I’m interested in. There are rules changes and updates on nearly all of them right now. Perhaps River Horse is like a studio where his name is put on all of their output, but really it’s ten separate and intelligent people acting as his “assistants”? He’s like the Santa of wargaming.
I think the rules are very elegant and that is the essence of the game – the minis are markers, nice to haves. Having said that, I see no problem using any of the 28mm scale terrain or things like Mantic’s Battlezones to create great Terminator terrain, and populating it with hordes of machines and rebels. And that is where a tiny but comes in: if the Fate dice only allows up to 2 minis to activate per roll, a big game is going to take a while to play out.
I was thinking the same thing myself but I wonder if the commanders will make the difference. If you had 50 guys and could only do 1 or 2 at a time it would suck but if you’ve got 5 commanders that can activate 5-10 models each then it turns into more of a squad based game. Maybe that will give it the chance to scale up.
Really liking the rules for this, I’ve actually been working on my box today and have been doing some head swaps to get some more variety out of the resistance fighters and it has worked quite well.
As for the mat, I believe there is a deluxe version going to be released at some point.
The demo I had was on a fabric mat so I assume that will be a future release.
sounds like a fun game.
I love Alessio, esoecially since I know that he is the voice of Super Mario !
Itsa me, Alessio !
GASPPPPPPP!!! Blasphemy!
The gods of war shall punish you for daring to belittle the Great one.
Burn Yoshi – he’s a Heretic!!!!!
I’ve just painted up a set of this, and am thoroughly impressed. The models are nice, but the whole mechanic and presentation wins this set. So, so good. fantastic fun to play too!
Ahhh. And here it is. Long awaited and much discussed. I see from the initial reaction that acceptance is mixed. Some people love it. Several people have said they are a little disappointed, mainly as what you get in the box compared to the price isn’t on a par with other games system, especially when you look at what you will get for 70 quid from Warlord when buying something like Bolt Action. I’m surmising because this is a movie tie in that the Movie Company imposes constraints on what is in the box and takes a large cut of… Read more »
Oh no another set that I must get!!
Looks brilliant.
oh go on Alessio, you know you want to use the “dudu du dudu” music i sent you! 😉
The Resistance could use a few flame throwers (for that dramatic effect), but the more I see of this, the more I’m on board. Can’t wait to see some of the expansions, especially vehicles! Hmm…time to make a new game table, I think.
I’m very interested in this, but haven’t seen it locally. I’m a bit afraid to see the final price tag based on hearing it fall in the 65 to 70 GBP range. That’s almost $150CAD…which might price me out of playing. 🙁
I think you just convinced me. Now, any chance someone can convince my wife?
Fantastic, I’m sold… to the Warlord Games website!
