Total War: Warhammer First Impressions Arrive Online
June 4, 2015 by brennon
Total War: Warhammer is appearing online as websites start to give us their first impressions of the game. Game Informer have certainly dived in first it seems and showed off quite a few of the amazing screenshots too...
The Battle of Blackfire Pass
The battle that the gaming press got to see was one of the iconic clashes between Empire and Orc & Goblin at Blackfire Pass. Huge armies packed with all the troops you'd imagine were there including Wizards and some of the bigger battle engines too. Oh, and Giants...
According to the preview description this is a pretty insane looking game when it gets going. Monsters are smashing their way through ranks of soldiers while huge engines of war fire into the mass hoping to bring down these lumbering beasts.
Meanwhile Wizards who are very fragile call down spells like the Coment of Casandora from the sky and Karl Franz himself is engaged in aerial battle with an Orc riding a Wyvern (Azhag The Slaughterer?)
It all looks utterly insane and brilliant. With E3 just around the corner we'll hopefully see more of this game and hopefully this particular battle play out on screen for us too.
I think you can safely say I am hooked.

That certainly looks pretty, and the developers definitely seem to be doing all they can to be faithful to the design of the factions from the tabletop game. I am cautiously optimistic. Though I am not sure what those Empire Greatswords think they are doing in the second picture down – that leaping chop thing they are doing is not how you wield a zweihander, and if you tried to use it that way you would probably end up flat on your face, possibly having hacked a chunk out of yourself in the process… Just a quick point of lore… Read more »
Also I noticed that the troops are not amassed in rank and file
Is that a nod to the rumours about skirmish bases for WHFB? lol
Probably not, it’s pretty much how CA always does the press preview for new game. Scattered makes it look more “dynamic”
just hoping it is as good as the others.
Actually lets hope it’s better. Rome II was a nearly unplayable mess for a VERY long time and was released in a broken alpha state. Attila was released in a much more polished state but is quite bland (soo many factions have identical unit rosters). So yeah, lets hope Warhammer is better than what came before.
I read that as The Battle of Blackfar Piss
Double-take followed by facepalm.
I’m tired. Got a migraine Wearing Joe 90 glasses with the brainwaves of Professor Spooner etc etc
Jaysus, but this looks class. Been a long time since I really got my teeth into an RTS and I’m hoping this drags me back to the genre.
That looks mad!!! Pure even.
Just got to remind myself not to fall into the trappings of pre-ordering
I am on board too. With the tabletop game seeming to be in decline it will be good to have something to keep interest alive.
I just hope it also has a good strategy component to go alongside the battles. If it does and the battles are good then this will be a definite buy for me.
Looks so sexy but I got Rome 2 on pre-order and got burned (still didn’t play it much after re-install few months down the line and then uninstalled it) so as @vetruviangeek said “I’m cautiously optmistic”
skins for units look absoloutely amazing!! If only the actual karl franz griffon looked that good in plastic instead of the overwieght angry chicken GW sell.
