Mad Max: Fury Road is out at cinemas now and it's quite the thrill ride. It's mostly action, explosions, big vehicles and lots of err...well, more of that really. The big thing we took away from it however was that it comes with a sudden need to make loads of awesome vehicles for the tabletop.

Fury Road: Lego Style

Earlier in this week we stumbled on the album of LEGO Will who has built some fantastic projects inspired by the films that include the car from the original (complete with Mel Gibson Max)...

But of course the madness doesn't stop there. The old vehicles were awesome looking but the new ones are inspired by insanity and have taken on a life of their own.

As well as just being a bunch of vehicles covered in all manner of spikes and other bits and pieces they have also made a lot of people think about how exactly they'd go about building their own creations that aren't made of LEGO.Not that there's anything wrong with these LEGO creations but they aren't going to be as awesome on the tabletop as something scratch built...

The Ork Vehicle Method

The other method we've heard about (and we think is a pretty awesome idea) is to use the Orks of Warhammer 40,000 to make yourself an awesome Mad Max army for 28mm scale.

You don't actually have to do much to these vehicles to make them into something from Mad Max. All you might want to do is get rid of some of the Ork iconography and replace it with something a bit more human and you have some ready built road warrior vehicles.

Road Warriors?

As you can see they are very much purpose built for this process and you could easily pick up some of the Chaos Cultists to use as Road Warriors or just look around for a range of other post-apocalyptic survivors to use in place of the Orks that are riding these vehicles.

Once again just tone down the Chaos stars and such and you've got yourself an awesome gang of wild road warriors. To be honest the stars and chaos markings would be just as awesome left on and you could have a bit of fun with the likes of vivid hair colours and tattoos here too.

There's even other ranges as I mentioned above and one you could look at is Across the Dead Earth and their Red Claw Gang as an example.

10mm Mad Max!

You could always go out and pick yourself up some of the Dropzone Commander Resistance too if you really fancied having a go at a ramshackle force. All you'd have to do is add some more spikes and give the vehicles a crazy paint scheme and away you go...

Once again like the Orks of Warhammer 40,000 these are pretty nicely purpose built for a bit of adventure in the wasteland. The Technical Guns in particular look perfect.

Other Alternatives?

There is of course another way into the world of road warriors and crazy cars. The Devil's Run: Route 666 is basically 20mm Mad Max and it's currently on Kickstarter with vehicles like these below...

The best thing about the game, apart from the main boxed set of course, is that it has been made with the scale of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars in mind so you can raid your kids (or your own) toy box and then start converting up vehicles of your own like these...

These are from ironhands.com and they look pretty awesome. I'm fairly sure most of us have raced these kind of cars around ourselves so why not put them to good use on the tabletop?
