Games Workshop’s Dark Future Getting A Digital Reboot
May 21, 2015 by brennon
It looks like Games Workshop have been looking for someone to revive their old properties once again with Auroch Digital picking up the reigns of Dark Future with their new game called Blood Red States.
"In the hollowed out America of 2023, the major cities are either corporate controlled high-tech gated communities (Patrolled Zones, or PZs) for those who can pay, or lawless shanty towns for those who can’t (NoGos). Between these is ‘The Big Empty’, the polluted, wasted Red States of America where vicious gangs hunt and fight. The atrophied state has all but given up trying to impose law and order here and instead relies on a new breed of bounty hunter come highway warrior to keep the roads open, the Sanctioned Operative. Into this fractured new world the player must make their fortune.
The player runs a Sanctioned Ops agency; taking on missions for bounty outside the PZs. As well as the tactical action on the road, the player must also manage both the vehicles and drivers – from upgrades to the front-mounted HMGs to booking a driver into the clinic for a new set of bionic eyes."
The trailer above has a very tongue in cheek feel to it which is always good and it could well be a nice take on the game. Auroch Digital have worked on Chainsaw Warrior in the past and that turned out to be a nice little card and dice game that translated well over into the digital format.
Dark Future is coming to PC via Steam only it seems so we're not getting some mobile port. Whether the game is any good remains to be seen so we'll be looking out for some gameplay soon.
What do you think of the return of Dark Future?

Loving the fun feel of the trailer…its a shame they aren’t gunna make a mini game of it.
I’d get very overexcited if they ever reprised the minis game (doubly so if the bike models were any good the second time around ;))
I was really hoping for a GW digital down load of the original rules , and White Line Fever, and Dead Mans Curve expansions from WD.
The original board game did well on the back of the Mad Max films.
With the re release of Mad Max I was really hoping for a re boot of the cool old game.
(The original plastic vehicle and weapon sprues would have sold well too!)
lanrak: Over five years ago, my friend Francis Greenaway in the U.K. scanned the Dark Future rulebook, White Line Fever, and Dark Future magazine articles into Adobe Acrobat format. This collection of Dark Future rules was hosted on the Games Workshop Web site until 2013 when it was removed from the Internet. Francis also used the book d20 Redline from Fantasy Flight Games to create a RPG system for Dark Future. Yeah I still have the file from the Specialist Games site but does anybody know where I could get the board sections or the measurements to make my own?
Dark Future was one of those old GW games I desperately wanted but just couldn’t afford at the time. I remember drooling over the pictures of conversions they did in WD. By the time I graduated and got a job it was long gone. I would love a tabletop remake either by GW or someone else. Though I ended up with two copies of Dread Fleet thinking it was a SpaceHulk style remake of Man O War so maybe I should be careful what I wish for… There is that kickstarter game going on now that is similar but I… Read more »
I’d love to see your idea become true.
I was kind of interested in Route 666 but the demo videos showed a LOOOOOOT of dice rolling which kept me from backing it.
Oh love it, I’ve been thinking about Dark Future recently, mainly because of the KS clone type game that’s out and of course Mad Max. I think nostalgia is a good thing today!
I have my eye on BB2 for the PS4 later this year, I would love this to get a console version at a later date.
I told BOW about this! Pleased they featured it. I have the original GW board game and love anything DARK FUTURE so looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Dark Future was a good game, but I also found a game called ‘Outrider’ which is a little more fluid to play.
Does this mean were closing in on a event horizon game? Ô_Ô
I still have the original game gathering dust under the bed. I loved the pedestrian figures that went with the cars. I’d love a new version of the board game
