Reaper Miniatures Heading Back To Kickstarter With Bones III
May 12, 2015 by brennon
Reaper Miniatures will be heading back to Kickstarter later this year to bring even more Bones (plastic) Miniatures to their ever growing range. This time around the focus is on Ms. Bones and a whole bunch of warrior women...
The original launch date was going to be June 8th but they've decided to push it back allowing them to work on even more sculpts to go into this project. So, what about Ms. Bones?
Well, the woman above is a fierce warrior in search of her missing husband and she's very angry indeed by all accounts.
Will you be supporting this?

I got the last Bones KS and it was a ton of stuff including a huge Dragon and a Godzilla clone and all at ridiculously cheap prices. The material is weird but once you get used to it its all good.
I just don’t like working with bonesium. It’s OK for big monsters, but on human-sized minis the detail is severely lacking, and cleaning mold lines is almost impossible.
I had one of their Dwarf Bones models and it wasn’t too bad. It was like painting an old HeroQuest model but it wasn’t too bad.

I agree with @brennon . On human-sized models I always swap out the weapons. Cleaning flash takes some getting used to, but it’s worth it.
I went in on the first bones, got practically everything. I was really disappointed with the quality. The plastic they used wasn’t brilliant, it didn’t hold detail well and was too flexible.
For wargames, modellers, painters and collectors I’d recommend giving this a miss.
If your a role player and want some cheap ok models with loads of different bits and pieces, that you will never paint, then I would say get this.
I backed both the bones KSs, I find that the quality has risen markedly with the bones 2 compared the the bones 1.
You can also say the same about Mantics first KS product compared to their later ones.
They obviously have learned a lot. I expect the third Bones will be even better.
Mould line removal is much like restic, you need to slice/ carve them off, Which takes getting used to,
Still. The Bones material is much, much better for larger minis than for human sized ones.
Saw some pics of reapercon they had a giant tiamat dragon and stonehenge like scenery
I got practically everything in Bones 2, and so far quite a bit is proving to be useful unit filler or counts-as for Kings of War. A couple small things are a little on the floppy side, but otherwise the material seems ok to me. Don’t think I’ll get everything in Bones III, but I’ll get a few pieces I’m sure.
Wow! Great news. I haven’t even picked up everything I want from the second one yet! As mentioned above, the larger Bones monsters are a great value, and most of my big critter units are composed of Bones figures. The smaller ones need a bit more love, but all in all, these are a great value, and sculpted by some of the big names in the biz.
Still waiting for the Bones II figures to show up at my game shop. I get 10% off there, as I order in bulk, and of course, don’t pay shipping.
Sadly i think i have to pass this one… i have still things from the first KS to paint……
The material is GREAT for tabletop rpgs! the detail are not so good but…. you can really throw them at max speed against a wall without damaging them!
i used to carry some critters in my pocket to spice up a D&D night (just give a generous matte cover to protect the paint).
Okay my wallet’s just looking at me with the *OH SO SERIOUS* look. I don’t think it can take much more…
Jokes aside, I’ve jumped into Bones 2 for the generic 100 pledge and also grabbed that big cool dragon (Naarthrax or something) that I’ve completely forgotten since I’ve received my pledge so I just have to blow the dust off and assemble it because it just plainly rocks.
However, after paying the shipping cost and our whopping world class 27% VAT is wasn’t all that cheap. It was still a good valued pack investment though.
Ouch… 27% is a quite a hit. Not an issue for us across the pond.
Still, for big models it might be worth your while. A $5.00 marsh troll, for instance, with VAT added, would only be $6.30ish, and if you’re ordering a lot of figures, the postage per model gets diluted accordingly. Do any retailers over there carry them?
Having bought some of the Reaper Bones figs, and, despite initial reservations about possible ‘bendy plastic’ (very happy I was wrong about that one), I was very impressed with the figs. I am so looking forward to this.
I got some from the local store and they seem to be nice for the price.
Bones pros: cheap, durable, easy to paint. Perfect for beginners, people who want lots of RPG minis, and people who don’t want to worry about that game store kid (you know the one) who grabs stuff or knocks it on the floor.
Cons: Not as sharply detailed as metal. A bit of a bother to clean mold lines. I can deal with this.
