Samus The Daemon Prince & New Imperials Come To Forge World
May 1, 2015 by brennon
The hulking form of a Daemon has appeared on the shadowy battlefields of Forge World. See what you think of Samus, Daemon Prince Of Ruinstorm. If he has to keep saying that name all the time then no wonder he's angry. We also take a look at the new Solar Auxilia Tactical Command & Vindicator Laser Destroyer...
Blood & Death!
This huge hulking beast stands head and shoulders (and more) over the regular infantry in the game and is quite the stunning Daemon that they've never really focused on proper with the Horus Heresy Series yet I don't think.
More on this beast...
"A Daemon Prince of the Ruinstorm, spreading madness and slaughtering all before him in baleful frenzy, Samus is here! A hulking monstrosity, towering over mortals, Samus, a daemon of murder made manifest, was incarnated at the height of his powers as the walls between reality and the Warp were stretched thin by the Word Bearers’ dark rites at Calth. If his corporeal flesh was destroyed, he would soon return again to wreak havoc and claim more souls for the powers of Chaos, the sound of his name echoing through the Warp and in the minds of men."
A pretty awesome creation that is in a nice battlefield pose which I like. It's nice to see him actually looking like he's about to smash something to piece or cut someone in two with that blade of his.
Imperial Might
The Imperials aren't going to be left out with both the Solar Auxilia and the Space Marines getting some additional units for the tabletop with both the Tactical Command and Vindicator Laser Destroyer...
I think the Tactical Command is a great set of miniatures and it's nice to see that Commander model that was previewed a while ago popping up in this set alongside a range of other very complex looking models. The Scribe-type model for example with the stack of scrolls looks like he'll be insane to paint.
If you're looking to blow things away in both the Horus Heresy and in the current rules for Warhammer 40,000 then see what you make of the big Vindicator Laser Destroyer...
"Tearing through the armour plating of enemy vehicles, the Vindicator laser destroyer array is a potent weapon of destruction. First retrofitted into the heavily armoured Deimos pattern Vindicator chassis during the dark days of the Horus Heresy, several Legions took to fielding this variant as a mainline battle tank, proving itself on many occasions as an able tank hunter. After millennia of brutal warfare across the galaxy, it is still in favour within the Space Marine Chapters, the Vindicator Laser Destructor continuing to bring retribution to the enemies of Mankind."
...I reckon I'd still run with the big boom cannon on the front.
What do you think of Forge World's offerings?

I think the Daemon Prince is the worst model Forgeworld have ever produced.
The Imperials on the other hand look fantastic, what we have come to expect from Forgeworld
Never really understood why a daemon prince would bother to dress himself in a loin cloth — even such a nice one patched together from (what I can only assume must be) human skins. In the end, I must conclude that even daemons feel it necessary to maintain some level of decorum, and bless their diabolical black hearts.
I am not a fan of the Daemon, mainly because of his pose. I prefer models with slightly more neutral poses, his is too bent over for my personal tastes.
This is also why I am not a huge fan of all these models that are posed on chunks of scenery or big rocks.
Anyway I would definitely try to bend his legs to make him stand more upright.
As minigiant said the rest of the models look to be the usual high quality of FW.
+1 on the daemon. Samus – assuming this is the creature I remember from the GW Inquisitor novels – surely doesn’t look that. That model is just so uninspired – sort of a daemon that’s resulted from painting by numbers.
Going on to the Forge World Website and looking at further pictures of all of these; the daemon doesn’t look bad in some of the pictures (looks better unpainted), but it is still disappointing overall.
The Imperial Guard look great, and the paint scheme this command squad is given, is much better than the one the normal troops have.
The tank? It’s hard for me to get excited about a Rhino variant with a big gun; looks fine I guess.
I agree with the general sentiment. Not one of their best.
I don’t like that Demon Prince at all. It must be worst model FW has produced so far and considering they good track record it might remain as worst model that they have produced.
Those Imperials how ever are really good as can be expected from them. Gotta love Vindicator that is armed to the teeth with what I can only assume to be lascannons.
they got the old-school dog head about right, but the way hes posed and that clawed hand looks terrible. Id put that head on a Bloodthirster if I were into converting gw minis.
The demon is bad but not the worst model FW ever released. Don’t forget the Orc rock golem that anyone could make with foam. Now that was bad.
… well he’s wearing that loin cloth, but at least you can still see his ball sack from behind (O ,O)
… have they been looking at kingdom death minis 😛 ha ha
+1 for attention to detail
You can tell you are a sculptor 😉
ha ha 😛
yeah, I was looking at the piercings on his legs, and then I looked to left and thought
” yep… definitely a bright red ball sack ” (O ,o) ha ha ha
He’s also got a saggy backside…
… maybe he should invest in a thigh master 😛 😛 😛
Squats are the best way….daemon squats, now they sound bad ass!!
yeah, I think he’s already booked a few Bun-day Monday classes at the gym 😀 ha ha
If I was in the market for a big demon I’d get the Mom Miniaturas one for a third of the price. He is also resin, has more detail, and looks far better imo.
But alas, you would have to add your own ball sac @motioninpoetry .
… well then you would definitely be able to see the… ” taint ” … of chaos 😛 ha ha
lol. Would you sculpt him as a helmet or an anteater?
As for the tactical squad: nice, but certainly not worth 10 pounds a model, especially as it is being sold as a “unit.” Resin, blah, blah. Quality, blah, blah. I just bought 10 brilliant Mom Miniaturas resin elves (different genre, I know, but every bit as good in terms of sculpting) for 11 pounds… almost a tenth of the price. If FW is going to compete they need to lose their boutique-arrogance pricing. There area lot of companies out there that can match them in quality for a fraction of what they expect 40k customers to pay.
The deamon prince is really awfull.
The Tactical Command is just amazing and awesome!
The laser Destroyer looks familiar, I am sure I recall a scratch build that looked something like this from back in the day I suspect from an old copy of White Dwarf ?
Not really seeing the appeal in the daemon, personally – but that command group looks great, very characterful!
The Solar Auxilia are so tempting and to my mind one of the best sets of miniatures FW have produced…having said that thats a long list 😉
The guardsmen look fantastic!
The demon I find myself initially thinking its good but then compared to the last kit from GW Prime I think its a missed opportunity. Even compared to some of their other demon stuff.
What’s a “mainline” battle tank? Is it something you inject into your arm? Should we really be subjecting tweens to that sort of terminology? 🙂
Samus looks like a dog that got a brazilian waxing treatment on his whole body.
Some of the Auxilla models are great.
Samus is here!
Another expensive model to add to my Word bearers wish list.
Deamon (ffs) Prince = shite.
Hey looks like it’s not only WHFB GW want to kill…poor poor Forge World…..
I quite like the Samus model but… I don’t think everyone else here is wrong. There’s nothing very special about him, and he looks like a converted plastic chaos beastman giant/cyclops thing. I find the FW daemon models too fidly and over-detailed for my tastes which is why I like the relative simplicity of this one.
The command squad is amazing.
Both for the 2 veg. without meat and the demon in general I’d go to Darklands
