That’s another interesting technique, I don’t think it ever occurred to me ever to do body hair on a mini it thought I would just not be able to get the strands fine enough.
Your tutorials are getting better and better/ more interesting, apealing to me/ because you grow and you show new technics that I am confident to do too. just month ago I used sapling to do fur on my khador guard dog, so it is good for me to seeing you doing it too different way/model. I will use it very soon to paint og wariors chest and arms.
Go Romain, fight the good fight for the redheads!
Very nice, I haven’t seen very many red headed hairy chested paintjobs but this is definitely the best one!
Well, well, well ! Thanks guys for all the kind words…
I must say this show of support is a surprise, as a body hair tutorial wasn’t requested, I expected it to go unnoticed… But I’m very glad I could open up new horizons for some people !
On a serious note I was actually pretty damn impressed with how much his chest hair actually does look like chest hair.
Thanks !
I have… studied… numerous real-life examples. It’s a labor of love, if you will.
thanks Romain, i’ve been waiting for this final part for what seems like ages – as always some brilliant ideas.
in this case can you o more tutorials about hairs and textures on fabric please – here it is – request 😀
Like @commodorerob I didn’t think painting body hair on a model was achievable with any degree of realism for your average painter. I’m going to have to give this a try.
You’d be surprised !
Besides chests, I’ve seen many a display miniature in 54mm with “hairy” legs that weren’t sculpted on. It just detracts from the verisimilitude of it all when you have, say, a kilted scotsman or a roman legionnaire that looks as if he just waxed…
Surely the romans were fervent waxers, probably had a waxatorium for waxing and vomiting and other hedonistic roman vomit related things. The scots I’m sure were definite antiwaxers though.
nice very nice.
Good stuff once again Romain, will stand me in good stead for the Dungeon Saga Barbarian. Impressively pointed ‘stache you’re rocking now. I’m struggling to find a wax that’s easy to distribute without clumping and strong enough to hold, hair glue works, but the only brand I’ve found smells like a pensioner’s handbag, which I’m then stuck with all day. Any recommendations?
Thanks ! 🙂
I use specially formulated imported turkish beard wax only sold in a few stores in Paris. Difficult to get… but doesn’t smell bad and holds all day. Don’t trust the hipster brands or classic hair gel, it simply can’t hold for more than a few hours !
An interesting tutorial and definitely something I haven’t thought of trying before. Painting body hair I mean. Whenever it is within reason I will paint one or two models in a collection as dyed or natural redheads, for the sake of variety and because it’s a nice color.
Now what to try the chesthair tutorial on? Most of my minis are armored. Do Orcs have chesthair? Maybe they should. I certainly wouldn’t see them waxing.
To the rest of the BoW team, if you ever want to fire up the morality in wargames debate again Romain should be a featured guest.
Thanks for the kind words and the support !
I try to know what I’m talking about when I do talk about it. And yes, my orcs often have chest hair, usually black… Ogres too.
