Dwarf Grenadiers Get Ready For The Assault From Hysterical Games
April 27, 2015 by brennon
If you ever wondered what German Grenadiers would look like if they were Dwarves then check out these new models on the way from Hysterical Games who look very stern indeed...
Beards Of War
Below you can see a selection of these models that will become part of a larger Dwarven German army in this game called Panzerfäuste...
These are some great looking models with plenty of character to them, something we very much like of course. I like that they've managed to keep a level of historical accuracy with the gear and weapon choices too which is nice!
Want To Know More?
These models will make up part of the aforementioned game above, Panzerfäuste, where the classic armies are replaced with Fantasy elements including French Gnomes, British Orcs and more.
The original idea for the game was that it would be skirmish based but they are now going to work on growing it into a platoon size game featuring not only the type of infantry above but also some great big armoured vehicles and more. This isn't to say the skirmish version of the game still wont be viable but you'll then have different ways to play.
The list of different armies and of course the amount of Fantasy races is huge so hopefully the range is going to grow throughout the year.

Hmmm @redben may have had a point.
Dwarves are the new zombie lol
Not just Dwarves in this one! Orcs, Troglodytes, Gnomes, Elves, Trolls and more! Dwarves were just the first as they are iconic of the setting. 🙂

Haha lol kampfzwergs are coming to town 🙂
Those are absurdly cool!
These look rather fun and are perhaps a way into the dare I say it historical wargaming without it being remotely historically accurate. All I can ask is two things when are they being released or is this going to go to another kickstarter? But Somegeezer is correct they do look absurdly cool.
And its good that the UK army aren’t going to be the human shape on the board, however stumpy the dwarves are, will the Orcs etc be bigger than the dwarves or are the dwarves not dwarves?
For a view of other races, check out their older page at

The Nazis are dwarves and the Brits are orcs?
Nah.
Wrong way round for me.
Yeah. Kind of. But on the other hand they have a lot to do with dwarves when it comes to folklore and hmmm modern gardening 😉
Except that the Nazis depicted Jews as dwarves and that Orcs are usually the bad guys.
Yeah, I know it is only a game etc etc. But there seems to have been an unfortunate role reversal that goes against the grain for me.
I am going to assume you understand that jews are not fantastical beings born of stone.
Tolkien the originator of the parable of semitics(generalized) and dwarves,
was much like the rest of Europe at the time a compacted racist despite openly disapproving the nazis.
(Adding insult to injury he seems to have gone out of his way to explain t
hat he was in fact german,
despite growing up in South Africa and emigrating to England.)
In the end I assume that these people are not wanting to exoticize or stigmatize the Jewish populace even more but rather make a decent fantasy alt. history game.
Tolkien was not German.
“Tolkien’s paternal ancestors were middle-class craftsmen who made and sold clocks, watches and pianos in London and Birmingham. The Tolkien family had emigrated from Germany in the 18th century ”
As part of the demonisation of Jews they were portrayed as Dwarves by the Nazis in propaganda films.
It is just unfortunate that the dwarves have been chosen to represent soldiers of the Third reich. While dwarves are an ancient part of European culture, the depiction during the nineteenth and twentieth century was not
Yep, I am glad that someone here is taking everything ever so seriously @chibi 🙂 I would not say that Nazi propaganda depicted Jews as dwarves in the meaning we are discussing it here. Nor dwarf and certainly not midget have a negative connotation in the English language. If it would refer to “dwarves” it would certainly be translated as midget in English. Something very similar to what communists used after the war in relation to Poles not voting for them or being supposedly against the system. What is more, Jews were rather depicted as spiders, or hmmm thugs? Fat… Read more »
“I would not say that Nazi propaganda depicted Jews as dwarves in the meaning we are discussing it here.”
Whether you would say it or not, it is a fact that the nazi propaganda machine did depict Jews as dwarves in a very demeaning way.
Dwarf as in mythological race is NOT the same as “midget”, and you are merely playing semantics
Not sorry for taking things ever so seriously @yavasa
Especially as I was merely offering some information others may be interested to know.
@monkeyshaman
An interesting wild ride into alternative history, but it usually helps a narrative of pure imagination to have at least some internal logic.
@yavasa
It was film and poster to which I referred.
I am not an expert on Nazi propaganda but I have never seen a Nazi propaganda poster depicting Jews as dwarves so you must be referring to written word. Yet, still I agree that this is not the best match depicting Germans as dwarves.
Now this isn’t german germans this is 1940s brainwashed beyond help german waffen.
In that context playing up dwarf tropes like xenophobia and that weird language thing germans do on xbox is appropriate, having the vichy be gnomes is fun as well contextually as they really wanted nothing but the approval of the masters they were mirroring. I’m struggling with the bleary eyed dwarf in the middle though as his face is almost copy and pasted from an old propaganda poster, but with a slightly more bulbous nose.
Not to hitch on your post any further (yet I do) @Yavasa. But I think it is common knowledge that Tolkien wasn’t a german citizen. What I’m saying is that Tolkien was the one who made the ‘dwarves are jews’ delineation. This in 1937 two years before the war. Every one in Europe was on a jewhate trip back then, Tolkien was more inclined towards the ‘I am no a national socialist…buuut;’ Much I assume like the rest of anglo-catholic White South African academia. Him going out of his way to explain his germanic descent comes from him in an… Read more »
So what will the Americans, Japanese, Russians and Italian be?
Clearly we need Flying Monkeys with Maxim-Tokarevs and M1910s.
The Japanese could be Yokai
If they are Kitsune I would be severely tempted! lol
Italians should be gnomes from Rome
Which explains the Brits.
Orcs from York! lol
Gremlins from the Kremlin 😛
