PK-Pro Multibases
June 18, 2011 by beerogre
PK-Pro is about to launch a new range of "plug-in" multibases...
The holes in these bases are 15mm diametre, so they would be perfect for plugging your Kings of War models into. However, with bases of 7 and 8 models, I don't know how I would fit them in.
Perhaps the guys at PK-Pro are planning some bases of 5 and 20... they would be really useful.

These would probably be awesome for them tyranid armies where we need some movement trays
Do you mean 5 to 20 slots or 5mm to 20mm size slots? Only way I can see me using these is if they make them fit 40k models or Flames of War infantry
I think Andy means they could do with making the bases fit 5 and 20 kings of war/warpath models(assuming warpath models use the same base system). The problem I see with these is that they’re all cut into one size of tray which is 100mmx40mm which is perfect for two neat rows of 5, but not very good for anything else. if they had a 100×80 tray they could fit 20 in(although you could just use two trays) and then a 200×80 tray would cover the hordes of 40 models. Personally I’d like to see the 200×80 version with score… Read more »
That is a really good idea and perhaps you should send it to them!!! As I wholeheartedly agree with pretty much everything you just said.
Hey, great thanks for your coments!
I really appreciate that!
@cazboab, we were thinkging about to make a 200 to 80 mm base. but why dont you use 4 bases of 100 to 40 mm instead? We were thinking about transporting them and of course casting them!
we are using high quality resin and the larger a base is the more trouble you habe with casting and bending after casting!
I will crate a 100 to 80 mm base of course, because this is still possible!
great thanks again!

Hiho folks! As one of the developers of these bases, I might add some words too. We designed the bases especially for the KoW players that want to add some additonal formations to their army. Since the actual number of models in a unit is not that important (all that matters is the base size of the unit) it is possible to create little dioramas, something we wanted to make easier with these bases. For example the base with 7 models is ideal for shooting units like the ironwatch or skirmishers like the elven scouts. To create bigger units of… Read more »
Great idea !

The only problem I can see with these bases is that if you want your Champion to be in the dead centre of your horde unit. You can only accomplish this with a 40 slotta movement tray, as the join of the other trays form the centre if you combine the use of smaller ones.
Another solution could be a 20×200 (1 model x 10 models) then 2 lots of 60×100 (3 models x 5 models) behind them? this would help centralize the unit champion and make the large piece easier to cast? 🙂
Hope this helps

That could be possible, but I’m not sure if such a thin and long pice of resin wouldn’t be even more likely to bend or snap.
The champion in the horde is definitely a problem, but this is also true if you use the regular bases from Mantic Games. I therefore think that it isn’t such a big problem if the champion isn’t exactly positioned in the centre of the front rank. But who knows, we might think about this and try to come up with an idea. 🙂
3 movement trays of 3 models wide by 4 deep? which would give you space to make a pretty base and would allow 36 models in total which is close enough to 40 for me 🙂 this way you would have 3 3×4 base stacked side by side and would produce a center for champ with flag and musician to each side 🙂

That would be problematic.
While the number of models is rather irrelevant at KoW, the size of the regiment is not. A horde of 40 models has to be 200*80 mm wide. And since a base of your suggested size (60*80 mm) could not be used for any other regiment, I don’t really see a market for that.
I’ll think about a solution, but since even Mantic don’t place their horde-chamions in the middle of the front rank, there might be other sizes that are more urgent at the moment (100*20mm, maybe 1 or 2 bases with 100*80mm).
Cheers! 🙂
I don’t mean change the size of the base, I am refering to the number of models on a horde size base just split into 3. Therefore 3 bases of 66.6 (front) x 80mm (Depth) This would give a frontage of 200mm (3x 66.6mm) by 80mm Each base would be 3 models wide. like thus: (Back) x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x F C M x x x (Front) these bases would be side by side.… Read more »
I get the idea but for the moment we’ll have to focus on sizes that can be used for as many armies and unit sizes as possible (100mm*40mm seemed ideal for a start). The design and the casting are not cheap and we need to sell some stuff before we can create new moulds. 🙂
When will these be available? Or are they already on your store? I can’t see them. Any idea about price.
Realease is planned for July, the bases are currently beeing casted. 🙂
Well my drawing above didn’t comne out as expected 😛
hope you get the idea though 🙂

another thing… How come you make them from High quality resin? surly a more cost effeciant plastic would suffice for the purpose of a movement tray? As if they are to highly priced, people will by one and reproduce it with lower grade material. Which lets face it. Would be efficiant under the circumstances, as you would have to play like an Ork to damage your movement trays! hehe I think cheap and chearfull will win the race with this product. If you were to have sculpted trays, that would be slightly different as you need the detail. However, these… Read more »
The material isn’t the problem here. We could use cheaper resin of a lower quality instead, but this would only reduce the quality of the bases and probably lead to more miscasts, so not much would be achieved by that. Casting in normal plastic (like the standard Mantic bases) is not an option since a plastic sprue is extremely expensive and we would have to sell thousands of bases just to cover the costs. We believe that the resin we use is the most efficient way to do this and we’ll do our best to offer you guys a fair… Read more »
Thanks Darkover 🙂
I’ll wait and see what you bring out then. Would be nice to get a little lip at the front in order to pour a fake water mixture into to create a swamp-like theme for my undead 😀
I agree with broadside, a little lip around the edges would be superb! more sizes too.
