Take Out Titans With Forge World’s Imperial Primus Redoubt
April 3, 2015 by dracs
Forge World have released a new tile for their Realm of Battle 40k terrain range. Take cover in this Primus Redoubt and use its heavy weaponry to take out Titans.
The Primus Redoubt is a super-heavy emplacement usually built by the Imperium to defend vital locations such as cities or foundries. They can be armed with a variety of heavy weapons that are more usually found on void ships, powered by a generator deep beneath the main emplacement structure. Protected by its heavy walls and a force dome, the Primus Redoubt can withstand practically anything thrown at it.
I showed this and its experimental rules to Khrystan, our resident 40k rules buff, and he described it as being one of the best buildings and most cost effective (points wise) pieces in the game.
This is not surprising as the double-barreled laser turbo weapon it can field fires off two large blast templates and gets a bonus to shooting at large targets. I wasn't joking when I said this thing can pose a serious threat to Titans. Of course, all this comes at a price, for if the enemy manages to make the Redoubt explode, you will end up placing the Apocalyptic Mega-Blast marker as its generators blow.
In total, this is a truly impressive terrain piece that will help set the scene for what would have to be an incredibly epic siege battle. I can almost imagine a Titan, surrounded by other large vehicles, advancing as a row of these blast away at them.
Do you use any of Forge World's Realm of Battle tiles? What do you think of the experimental rules for this one?

Damn 40k can look cool when it wants to, and almost no sword or axe in sight! 🙂
damn you GW, you are making come back after a couple of years away ^^
That rather nice gun emplacement.
noice!
nice but should have a 360% turret?
If it’s part of a system of defenses it’s actually better to have its left and right arcs defined. That way you don’t have several guns firing in one place, and no one covering the zone next to it. I can’t really see any infantry standing around the turret though, as there is zero protection for them in the forward arc. Something that is always glaring on this type of terrain is the square base. It would look less out of place if the base had an irregular shape… unless it’s meant to be a tile, and butt up to… Read more »
For once I think the base is a part of the terrain, and you swap it in for one of the “regular” tiles
I’m thinking of this plus the other Real of Battle Board tiles that GW have done could make a really interesting board.
Just need to convince the Mrs of the space to have a table set up properly
