Unboxing: Forge World Mechanicum Thallax Cohort
March 31, 2015 by dignity
Justin's back in with @deaddave for more from Forge World. This time it's a set of Thallax Cohort cyborg shock-troops for the Mechanicum!
These cyborgs have been heavily augmented to ensure they have greater strength than that of your standard Space Marine. The set Dave has brought in includes the Phased Plasma-Fusil weapon for one of the troops. Alternatively you can get a set where each cyborg has the lighting gun as standard.
Plasma or Lighting; which weapon would you choose?

Really loving the look of the mechanicum stuff you guys are showing off at the moment.
But is it enough to tempt me back to GW?
I gota say, mechanicum is one of the few things keeping me going with GW lol
As I’ve said to you before @deaddave I love these minis.
great mini’s Deaddave.
I can see myself beginning to develop an obsession with all things Mechanicum.
First vaguely original design in a while… Maybe they’ll finally reboot the rest.
Funny, at first glance they looked like Deadzone Striders.
You can keep your legions of Space Marines, Mechanicum all the way.
That looks nice, but not consistent in style with the infantry we just got a peek at.
I was just looking at the fluff… outstanding. They’ve taken the cerebrum, internal organs, and nervous system — which would include the cerebellum — out of the person. The legs and arms are obviously robotic, so what does that leave? Apparently there is “a terrible cost to those who endure this process.” Really? He’s not in there; he’s dead. All they kept was his his pecker, ribs, and ring piece… but at least those are nuclear powered! The hottest chili in the world, or the spiciest wings, would be child’s play if you’ve got a reactor for a tummy :-).
well they’re awesome looking, so they’re basically the best foot soldiers that the mechanicum can build while still using some of the original squiggly bits that humans are issued with as standard equipment right?
What bits would those be, beyond what I’ve outlined above? And what purpose would they serve? Why would you maintain a biological circulatory system for irrelevant bits that have nothing to do with the physical performance or intellect of the “cyborg,” to use the term loosely?
Seriously? Did you read that fluff on the FW website? How did you manage to misunderstand it so badly?
Um…I quoted it verbatim. Enlighten me.
Just go read it again if you’re actually interested. I won’t waste anymore time talking to you. I doubt you’re actually interested in anything other than trying to score Internet points. You quoted half a sentence out of context. Is that what counts as “quoted it verbatim”? You’re rapidly descending into self parody mate.
I’m habitually wrong, and freely admit it, but “completely replacing the major organs, nervous system and cerebrum of a human with armoured mechanical systems” sounds a lot like completely replacing the major organs, nervous system and cerebrum of a human with armoured mechanical systems.
You know what, you’re atcually right @cpauls1 and I apologise. The FW website actually contains a error in the entry for this particular set. It should read that they replace everything EXCEPT the major organs, cerebrum and nervous system as is correctly explained in the books and the description of the original Thallax release. FW messed up their blurb on the website. Sorry.
Accepted, and good on you for manning up. This site wouldn’t be any fun if we didn’t come to fisticuffs every now and again 🙂 . What would we talk about? Why would we stop in?
And I also appreciate that you didn’t transform into a vulgar illiterate. Your own instincts play far better than any advice you’ve been given.
Sorry, not my idea of fun @cpauls1 . I do my best to try to ignore your comments, but when you post things which are just wrong I can’t help myself. In this case, it’s FW’s fault that you read some clearly wrong fluff. However, it was so obviously bollocks that another person might have either dismissed it as an obvious mistake or even dug a bit deeper to find out the real version. Not you though. No, you rub your hands with glee and jump all over it like the childish little troll you are. I’ll never forget that… Read more »
How about you both give it a rest now @cpauls1 & @erastus
I wouldn’t mind all that if they put me in something that actually looked really cool.
It’s okay, but fairly bog standard
Agree with the comment about consistency. It looks totally unrelated to the recent releases.
There is a simple answer to that. Each Archmagos forges his/her Skitarii according to what they believe is the most combat effective. There are many factions of war within the Mechanicum. These particular models are an example of the near heretical Cybernetica faction, and are an example of getting as close to a robot as the law of the Mechanicum allows while just barely not crossing over (though Forgeworld mistakenly calls them Ordo Reductor, the faction that specializes in artillery. Its possible Cybernetica was not a faction in 30k). GWs models are more traditional, probably representing the Myrmidae school of… Read more »
Love this FW unboxing guys especially the Mechanicum stuff so much so that a few days ago I put an order in (truth be told I’ve had my eye on them for quite some time), so with a few other bits I’ve got the Thallax bundel on the way and it’s good to know about the power cables ta Ddave.
Mwahahaha!!! The machine god is pleased!
Wow a military grade Robocop/cyberman? Very nice.
I suppose the reason for keeping the squiggly bits is the outlawing of AI… the Mechanicum isn’t supposed to be allowed to build AI and any that they did/do build would be too valuable to be wasted on foot soldiers hence keeping some of the biological components
@deaddave can you please post some pics of your Ad Mech army in the forums……..if you haven’t already! Looking awesome!!
Got a few bits here fella

the figures are getting better and better and as you can see on the vid they paint up very nice
I sense much shouting, cursing and caffiene in my future when I start my Mechanicum army…………….in saying that though they do look lovely
Unsure about a 4+ armour save Justin? Please give your opponent a chance.
Cool models as are the Skitarii, if only someone at my club played 40K I would have an excuse to but these lovelies.
look belting Dave great work as always. From the looks of it the only thing missing is an opponent 😉
