Warhammer STOMP & THUNDER STOMP!!
July 16, 2010 by lloyd
A little look at a funky rule that comes into play at the end of combat in Warhammer called STOMP! Have a look and let us know what you think about STOMPING on your opponent 🙂

Now I love my trolls even more!
hey guys, cool video – i think though you need to turn the camera slightly to the left
Presumably stomp casualties count in combat resolution …..
Another reason to buy the awesome new river trolls
always took some trolls with my orcs and goblins and now they are way cooler with vomit, stomp and ranked attacks
I don’t think thunder stomp wil be useded alot on large targets expect dragons maybe but i can see normal Stomp being used alot I am wondering since my tomb Scorpian is a Undead Counstruct which Ustabis get stomp does the scorpain get it too or what is the Requirement to be a moustres infanty?
Thunder Stomp on your Undead Giant, nuff said!!!
Funny thing i’d like to point out that rules dosen’t exactly say about Strenght of Stomp.
Rule of stomp (pg 76) says that it is carried out “at the model’s strength” combined with Strength rule (pg 89) of weapons “then this is the modifier the weapon applies to the wielding model’s strength”.
Therefor rules aren’t clear and it is possible that Ogres take up Great Weapons (+2 S modifier) and use stomp at S 6 i believe.
Or there is something i’am missing?
that sounds really weird and wrong. as it should say Taken on the Model’s initial or unmodified or orignal stat, since it doesn’t say any of those i am guessing that you can modifier your Stomp but i wouldn’t say i am postive i would have a read through over the rules and try and get the proper english out of it maybe get a debate going as it could be a factor that makes Koggroxes and ogres and Dragon orges and other things with upgradable weapons more worth taking.
@pili look at the charts beginning at page 482
Tomb Scorpians count as Monstrous Beasts and get the Stomp special rule.
thanks so much ^_^ and oh i love my scorpains even more now ^^
To me, the term ‘Stomp’ implies that weapons shouldn’t come into it. It sounds like it should purely be the strength of the Ogre giving a final huge kick/stamp on a small nearby enemy.
Adding the additional weapon strength makes it seem like the weapon itself is being used again.
@gensturm, but the Stomp isn’t an attack with your weapon, so I don’t think you get the +2 strength bonus from the Great Weapons,
but you would get +3 strength for your Stomp, when using the Strength Potion,
And yet, base this on rulebook not on “deduction”. Wording of Strength paragraph suggests that, while wielding the weapon, you get its strength modifier.
To clarify: Logically i think it’s nonsense, but yet, rules are rules.
Yep – this is a similar thing to the lightning claw ‘debate’ (there’s another video about that somewhere!). Anyhoo, stomp is at your model’s initial strength. Firstly ‘cos it makes sense, and second as when stomping he isn’t WIELDING the weapon he’s got. Common sense should be used between you and your opponent in any case so if you’re playing someone who insists on drawing this out into a massive argument it’d ruin the game, and you probably wouldn’t want to play them again! This would contradict the Most Important Rule (funny how no-one ever mentions that!).
Yeah I would agree, it will prolly be the model’s own strenght.
One big HEADS UP for the BOW-team ( and every one else):
– (Thunder)Stomp can only be used against Infantry, Warbeasts and Swarms, as explained at page 76. Therefor the Ogres can not kick the heels of the Dragon; he’s to big to be Stomped! 😉
Btw, for any Vampire Count players:
– The Corpse Cart is treated as a Monster when moving and in close combat. This means it is allowed to make a Thunderstomp! It already has a 2D6 basic random attacks at Initiative 1. Combined with the Thunderstomp, it will have 3D6 attacks in close combat! ( albeit on strenght 2)
one of those d6 would auto hit aswell (the thunderstomp) so yaay corpse cart!!
My hell pits love this as on charge they get D6 impact hits, it’s I4 so got a decent chance of striking first bar against elves and other skaven causing more damage and then getting another d6 attacks all at str 6 and I’ve played a game with it in the new rules and the hell pit went up to a orc boy unit killed 15 of them and then cut down the rest in pursuit. Only a pity rat ogres aren’t really worth it due to the packmasters being so easy to kill.
Just wait untill you see the new Rat Ogres in the Island of Blood starter set and you’ll change your mind on not fielding any, they look awesome.
They could be the most beautiful models in the game and I still would not field them. With packmasters being weak and so easy to kill it is not worth it as the masters will die seeing as in the new rules you can only have 1 for every 2 ogres and 1 round of magic or shooting can easily deal with them now. This of course makes the ogres stupid and they will fail pretty much all of their tests due to low LD even if near a general due to skaven low LD and will spend most of… Read more »
Sorry, but I dont quite get that mentality people have. For me it’s about looking good, on the battle field while following a theme and having good scenic epic moments together. Worst Ld in the game wont stop me from fielding Trolls in a goblin army, after all it’s fun! Each to their own.
Excellent run-through in the video, but as pointed out, the Ogres can’t Stomp! on the Dragon as it isn’t “enemy infantry, war beasts or swarms”. One thing to point out: if the model has Always Strikes First (not sure how many, if any can), then it is resolved at normal inititative, as it isn’t an inititiative 1 attack, but an Always Strikes Last attack that auto-hits. Rules as Written: You can use the bonus from a Great Weapon, but in the spirit of the game and (fairly) clearly the intentions of the writers, you can’t. Something to note is that… Read more »
@ hashutsblessing:
It says in the latest FAQ’s that The Corpse Cart is treated like a monster in all respects, and therefore can use Thunderstomp
Can a steam tank thunderstomp? It’s a large target, but I don’t have the rulebook yet. My LGS has run out, I think.
According to the Empire FAQ it can not thunder stomp. It do a D3 impact hit per steam point spent though, one would think that would be enough (grind grind grind the enemy down).
A great new rule!
Thunder stomp!
does the stomp get to use killing blow and things like that?
🙂 ogres get you hit you three times now, bull charge, combat and stomp.
i love this rule being able to stomp on thing with my ogres is awsome 😀
Ah, what a lovely rule. Anything that makes my dragon ogres even better is a more than welcome for me.
how does this rule affect kroxigor? they are monstrous infantry (I believe), but when they are in a mixed unit with skinks, do they still get to attack even though they are in the second rank? they have their great reach ability, allowing them to fight from the second rank, but does that let them stomp?
I love stomp! My stegadon has thunder stomp and it’s pretty amazing, along with the impact hits my stegadon has it’s pretty great.
Just watch special rule Stomp and thunderstomp and I cannot see any errata to my O&G rule book who will get this? Can you help me out here? ARe the Azhag, Trolls and Giant are going to get this?
yes giants any of your dragons trolls thay are the bomb waaaaaaggh
