Flames Of War Plastic Comet Platoon Coming This Month!
March 19, 2015 by brennon
Battlefront keep on the pressure with new armour and armour-killers coming to World War II and Flames of War. Kicking things off we have the brand spanking new Comet Platoon in plastic followed by some soldiers eager to hunt them down...
This was a tried and tested Tank during the war and certainly earned its stripes in many campaigns. Interestingly these tanks were the kind of vehicles that got tweaked and changed as time went on - making them fit into whatever combat role they needed to fulfill. Being speedy tanks they were used to try and run rings around the Panther tanks of the Germans so they could get a shot at the rear armour.
It speaks to the success of the tank that it would also go on to fight for the British in Korea onwards into 1958.
Support Your Tanks
Slightly less impressive is the little Humber Scout Car that was used to scout ahead of the main armoured column.
These would be a perfect accompaniment to the Comets you've seen above. A neat little vehicle although I'd be tempted to make sure the top of the Scout Car was hunkered down for a bit of safety!
Ambushed By Tank Hunters!
Last but not least if you are collecting Germans then you'll want something to take care of the new armour rolling out for the British.
Meet the SS-Waffen and Grenadier Tank Hunter Teams that will be hiding in the bushes ready to ambush your rolling column as it powers through the countryside. I can imagine attacks like this would be a constant worry for advancing armour, especially in urban environments.
Will you be picking up the Comets?

Both of those are really good.
Humber scout cars are my jam lol
Wasn’t the comet just an up-gunned Cromwell? I didn’t think they were held in very high regard.
Many campaigns?
It was only in use for a couple of months with one division before the war ended!
maybe they meant cruiser tanks in general
They look great. I may pick them up to support my Canadian army. Yet I may destroy them with my SS panzer grenadiers
Love em, ordered a 28mm scale one from a company in Canada for my bolt action (now field a late war Cromwell platoon with a Comet in support hehehe!!)
perfect for WW2.5, if I was to ever get into Flames of War, which, tbf, I probably should dabble in, with boxes like this it’d have to be late war for me. Speedy shooty goodness! 35mph with a gun like that isn’t to be scoffed at 🙂
This is the wicky info on WWII for the comet. The 11th Armored Division was the first formation to receive the new tanks – deliveries commenced in December 1944 – and the only division to be completely refitted by the end of the war. Due to its late arrival in the war in North West Europe, the Comet did not participate in any major battles, although it was used in combat. The Comet was involved in the crossing of the Rhine and the later Berlin Victory Parade in July 1945. The Comet’s maximum speed of 32 miles per hour (51… Read more »
That looks like a really great kit – it adds more possibilities to the late war, WW2.5 and Korean War possibilities.
