Dropzone Commander Boot Camp Day 2

Today is all about learning to play Dropzone Commander and to make sure everyone can see and here what Dave from Hawk has to show and say we've set-up a massive 50" tv showing the 4Ground feature table and a PA.

Lets kick off the day with a little update from Warren on what we have planed for our players today.

Time to hand over to Dave from Hawk Wargames so we all can get stuck into learning Dropzone Commander.

So one brilliant surprise for us all is that the city we have built for the DZC Boot Camp, has been given a name (Eden's Path) and is entering official Drop Zone Commander Canon!

We are hoping to have a little short story to share with you guys soon.

But let's see how 'Eden's Path' develops through the incredible story of the UCM's reclimation of their home systems!

Dave and James from Hawk are now well into showing everyone how to get stuck into playing a game of DZC. After an intro on the PA they have split the Boot Camp up into smaller groups to make sure everyone gets to grips with rules. This is Dave’s first group using a great looking scourge army.

It's lunch here at the Boot Camp and everyone's demolishing the buffet, nuff said.

Everyone has settled down for a bite to eat so John and two of our guests have hopped into the Hobby Lab for a little chat about painting PHR.

Dave from Hawk Wargames has been teaching our guests to play Dropzone Commander all day and now that people have got first games under their belts he's stopping off to see what they think and offer up a little advice on playing their faction.

Dave has stopped off with John just before he kicks off into his second game of the day and has one or two useful tips to pass on.

Some people love to play the bad guys, the question is after his first few games is Kelvin (A.K.A. Lordnivlek) loving the Scourge?

Now comes the surprise bit, we've been looking forward to 🙂

As you know each day has had a theme, tomorrows is all about commanders and command cards... so... every attendee got a free commander model and a free set of command cards!

Awesome stuff... ohh and we gave out a little extremely, highly, shockingly amazing, limited edition historical image of our little town 😉 (Only 22 ever made!)

Lets get a look at the new faction for Dropzone Commander as Dave has a chat with Peter (A.K.A. Pforson). Will you be joining the Human Resistance?

Last but not least in the line up of Factions is the UCM. Dave stops off with Joe (A.K.A. Bigphis83) to have a quick chat about how he's been getting on with his new UCM force.

The Green Room's been taken over as people get stuck into building the Surprise DZC Commanders Hawk Wargames have given to everyone.

Well we're winding down for the day but before we do Dave and James from the Hawk Wargames team have set up a little exhibition match...

Dave and James get stuck into a demonstration game, with Dave fielding the military might of the UCM against the technological superiority of James' Shaltari.

In the first two turns, James kept himself hidden behind the buildings, steering clear of Dave's Rapier Anti-Air guns. Dave managed to get five hits on the vital Eden gate craft, only for James to be saved by the Shaltari's shield tech, passing each 5+ save.

James sent in his Braves after the objectives in two of the buildings, only to find Dave’s Legionnaires ready for him. Dave managed to fire thirteen points of damage into one of the buildings. With the place about to collapse around him, James needed to find the objective quick. Fortunately for him, he made the roll and was soon able to get out of the danger zone.

Things were looking bad for Dave in the fourth turn. James’ Eden was zipping off the board with the objective, while the Shaltari’s gate tech had let him hop some Braves into another building on the other side of the board. Meanwhile, his Sabres engaged in a vicious tank battle with the Tomahawks, with both of them taking shots. However, the worst was yet to come. James’ Braves continued to deny Dave’s Legionnaires the objective and despite being heavily outnumbered didn't suffer a single hit in combat, steadily whittling down the UCM infantry. With only two turns left, Dave really needed to score a break from the dice gods.

In turn 5, the Legionnaires finally managed to take down the squad of Braves, but too late in the game to take the objective off the board. Things turned into a game of hide and seek as Dave’s dropship hid from the Kukri’s AA firepower. James failed to hit the second Condor dropship, but at this stage he seemed content to sit back and let Dave sweat it out.

The final turn upon them, Dave’s Legionnaires managed to find the objective. He poured as much fire power as he had left into James’ vehicles, but in the end it was too little to late and the game ended with a decisive victory for the Shaltari.

So as you will notice from the time stamp, we're only posting the pub pics after crawling out of bed, some us us wondering where the hell we actually are!

But a great night of food, drink, and banter was had by all 🙂
