Roll Out The Big Guns With New Forge World Solar Auxilia Weapon Platforms
March 13, 2015 by brennon
It's time to give some supporting fire to your infantry as the Solar Auxilia advance across the battlefield. Forge World have supplied just the thing for such an occasion with both the Quad-Mortar and Multi-Laser now being available to buy for dispatch next week...
"The Rapier weapons platform is used extensively by the Solar Auxilia. Its hard-wearing armoured track system and high load capacity make it ideal for carrying powerful weapons that are too heavy for an auxiliary to carry into battle. The long-range firepower of the quad mortar is used to suppress enemy troops and even crack through their armoured bunkers."
"...The quad multi-laser tears through enemy infantry formations in rapid firing bursts, the terrifying sound of which has heralded the advance, and victory, of the Solar Auxilia for generations."
It's good to see the Imperial Guard of the past getting some more firepower to lay down withering amounts of damage on their foes. What's also neat is that it's not as static as the Warhammer 40,000 versions would have you make it lending credence to the way in which the Solar Auxilia fight.
Miniature wise both of these are pretty neat and the modular way in which they've used the same Rapier weapon platform means that you could see a lot more variety in the types of weapons they mount on them in the future.
Will you be collecting more Solar Auxilia?

Those are rather good.
OMG, who is writing the fluff these days? The 12-year olds it’s aimed at? I love the sound of lasers.
Not entirely convinced those vehicles need drivers. They would look better as remote controlled weapons platforms IMO. But if they must have drivers, wouldn’t an armoured cab be appropriate? Or a gun shield at least? Is there no counter-battery in the future?
And I just noticed: the mortar is mechanized, but there’s a guy walking beside it carrying ammunition. Do you think they could put the ammo in, say, a trailer?
Careful now, you don’t want to go apllying logic to 40K, or to 30K for that matter – the setting has been the mortal enemy of logic for over three decades now.
I mean, who in their right mind would go to the bother of making a sword/chainsaw hybrid in an era of high energy ranged weaponry…? 😉
lol. Good point. In that case, maybe the laser platform doesn’t need a gun shield because it is an indirect fire weapon, and doesn’t stray close to the front 🙂 .
Forge World fluff really isn’t aimed at 12 year olds @cpauls1 . The typical Horus Heresy player is more like a 25-45 year old guy with a decent disposable income.
Just reads that way.
Theres no logic in the real military why would you need it in 30k, I would look at that gun and go wow I dont have to carry the gun and the ammo this is the best thing ever.
Oh dear. Insulting the military and, by extension, vets, won’t take you very far.
There’s plenty of logic in the military, and in the design of military vehicles, especially when it comes to the triad of mobility, firepower, and protection.
Well, you know sometimes some armies deserve a little piss taking 😉
Back on topic though, the laser version would make more sense with some kind of shield.
You’re right @erastus. I think it would look better with a two-man crew and a gun shield. Might be a fun mod, maybe extending the back a bit.
The mortar needs a trailer, or some kind of caterpillar track extension and a bin, like a BV 206, and maybe a claw or some kind of loader that can drop in four rounds at once.
As for @monsterhead . Then you need to find a less tired cliché 😉 .
Im in the military
Out if interest, which one?
Royal armoured corp for 8 yrs now
Ah, tank guys. Nice. 🙂
Yep why walk when you can ride a tank. By the way like the models wish I could afford a whole forgeworld army
The laser one is practical the mortar one isn’t would need a trailer larger than the unit for a reasonable load.
