What’s Coming For Flames Of War? Vietnam, WWII & More!
March 6, 2015 by brennon
Battlefront have gone through some of the upcoming stuff coming your way for Flames of War. It isn't just going to be World War II that claims the focus during the first half of the year...
As most of you know the Open Fire set is getting a change at the end of March and will come with new rules material alongside some additional plastic tanks for the British Sherman V/Firefly and German StuG.
Next up is Brown Water Navy which continues the wargaming in the Vietnam War, a type of Flames of War game that really excited us here at the studio. Battlefront are heading back into the jungle and the Mekong River for a bit of naval warfare on the big rivers. Don't worry, I'm sure there will still be plenty of ambushes.
Colours of War is up next and should help everyone who has problems with how to paint, and indeed what colour to paint, their World War II tanks alongside of course plenty more from Vietnam and the battling in the desert that is the Arab-Israeli War.
Last but not least is the finale of the Soviet attack on Germany where they roll into Berlin and start taking apart the last remnants of the German army. This was a brutal period of fighting where there were many dirty tricks employed by both sides to try and ensure victory, or indeed stem off defeat.
As well as all that there's plans to expand the Great War selection, dive into a new period of war around the Cold War, and check out more Pacific theatre warfare with two more books towards the end of the year for the US and Japanese. Exciting stuff.
Do you like the sound of what's coming out for Flames of War?

I am especially interested in the Brown Water Navy for Vietnam.
Some REALLY good looking stuff coming from Battlefront this year. The plastic modular terrain, cold-war era stuff and Japanese force look to be highlights for me.
Me and @bothi & @lafayette have to get some gun boat action going!
Well this may just get me into looking at this… riverine gunboats make for some awesomely fun games.
Hammerin Iron is a good fun game for ACW Brown Water gaming
Agreed I have lots of ACW 1/600 th stuff:-)
@warzan if you do, purple haze needs to be on in the background
I always thought brown water navies sounded like sewage specialists…
Watch Apocalypse Now for some of that sort of action in the boat going up the river looking for Colonel Kurtz.I love the scene with the tiger. (the cat, not the tank 🙂 )
While part of me is excited, the curmudgeon part tells me to curb my enthusiasm until the products are actually available. There are too many unavailable SKUs in BF’s wide product line as it is and I doubt widening it further will help.
I’m already pretty exited for Berlin in a couple of months and the Cold War gone hot stuff by the end of the year.
One interesting point mentioned by Battlefront and not pointed out here is that they’ve apparently been expanding their production capacity, so those shortages over the past year should be less of a problem going into the future.
This matches what I’ve seen and heard from my local gaming store; BF’s product availability is getting better again, starting with the most popular items. However, their distribution systems still seem to be rather sub-par.
Those seem really interesting. I might have to pick up Berlin one when it’s out.
Battlefront must have some money left from the Dust kickstarter (at least several hundreds US$ from me). So it should be easy to expand other games of their lineup.
Sorry for this not very constructive comment. I just couldn’t resist and always have a bad feeling when I read their (or Dust Studios) name
Nothing against new releases, but they really should focus down on getting their ducks lined up and sorted before going ahead and investing that money into other expansions…
Considering their main arena (WW2) ends at Berlin it’s not a suprise they’ve opened up other conflicts to develop going forward. But there’ll be a lot of mileage in going back over WW2 ‘tidying up’ the WW2 lines, especially moving everything to plastic will make it more attractive to newcomers.
Wow, I am enormously excited particularly By the Vietnam expansion, the paint guide which I really could do with, as well as the fall of the Third Reich!
Anyone fancy a ride up past the Do-Lung bridge?
SO THIS IS WHERE MY STOLEN FROM dust TACTIC MONEY GO TO !
As they say, ” never get off the @#$!&$ boat!” I have faith all will be worked out. I backed Dust and I believe Battlefront will Make good.
I may finally have to jump on the 15mm bandwagon when the Col War bits come out in October. Fulda Gap here I come!
