grrr… not able to watch it… in gemany -.- this sucks…. but the pics are nice!
It’s nice to see different techniques. I’m in awe of the guys who airbrush everything, but that’s a lot of processes for my personal liking & many seem counter intuitive (but then I am rather old-school) – not that I haven’t learned anything from it that I’m no doubt going to try mind 😉 I like Vallejo paints a lot, although I don’t have many at the moment. They provide much better coverage than GW’s and the pots make the paint last longer, by virtue of not having massive open tops, and they are also easier to mix in precise… Read more »
Good paint-job… I frowned upon too many thick coats of paint applied over too many areas, it’s a danger to the details of the miniature… but then I remembered this is a GW ork, so there’s no detail to begin with !

I so need an airbrush
Overpainting can be an issue with minis, but then how detailed are they really??
***dam ninja mode even as i type***
its very hard to put too much paint on with an airbrush as long as you’re fairly sensible.
I painted some Imperial Guard with an airbrush and then repainted them so they had something like 4 layers of paint on including 2 undercoats and you cant tell as the layers are so fine, also because airbrush paints are much thinner than you would normally use.
Agreed… But this just seems like too many coats to be sensible on some parts. Especially since most painters don’t own an airbrush… I’d have put masking tape on the skin and leather parts first.
You can also use airbrush colors with a paintbrush, the pigments are really fine and it allows for better highlighting in many cases.

I love the idea of using airbrush paints on my brush, since I don’t own an airbrush or will probably ever get the money for one since I’m headin up to college soon. Thought the airbrush paints would be too thin for a brush.
And about the details, yah it seems to be too much in the creases of the mini, but it came out great, especially on that scenic base. The details of the skin of an ork is so deep that I think he couldve kept going and it wont be too much of an issue.
Awesome video, but anyone who wants to remain a sane person better not try this out for creating an Ork Army. Unless you have boatloads of free time on hands that is.
Always love to see a master at work. But what I love most about his videos is ‘I am doing this’ No judgemental tones on anything or preferences to anyone one thing it’s just this what I do to get the best results.
His an all round class act.
It’s always interesting to see new techniques and I was fascinated by the use of masking fluid for the metals. It had just never occurred to me to mask a mini before 🙂 Thank you for sharing this – certainly lots of new things to experiment with here!
Interesting video.
Although I paint model kits with an airbrush, I’ve only ever used it to prime minis, so its interesting to see how he does it.
The closest I’ve got would be to airbrush a black primer on something like a imperial guard unit, then put a second light coat of either light grey or white over the top with the airbrush to create the highlights, then use glazes to put the colour on the models, whilst leaving the light and shade showing through.
Loved the pain job, and im planning on geting an air brush, tho i think ill start of whit containers of air, and not a compressor, the bits i felt i learned from this video was the bit whit paint chiping effect, and well, everything else just about, ive got a load of valjeo paints, but i guess im going to try some of those air brush paints next time im in town buying stuff…
Dont be timid about getting a compressor, you can get some pretty decent ones on ebay and they will save you a lot of money in the long run! 🙂 (but obviously test it out first with some cans to get a feel for it)
I’d strongly recommend you don’t use the “cans of air”. They may sound a cheap way to start and they are “cheap”. The air pressure is not constant as they don’t have a regulator. Just check out the FoW vid for the Tiger, every time John pressed the button it spurted at a high pressure and then dropped back. By using cans you may learn to hate the brush. Instead spend the money and get a compressor with regulator and moisture trap. It doesn’t need a tank as you aren’t doing large areas. And try and get a double action… Read more »
You really hate GW don’t you Romain? Alot of your comments I see you taking a dig at them needlessly. Orks have always been a fairly detaled line from GW.
If you want saying it about LoTR woodelves or WFB Elves Id agree, but Ork….you must be mad!
But hey even orks have more detail than mantic’s zombies lol.
I was going to say I was looking forward to one of your 3 colours up vids soon, but now I aint too sure. The GW hate is getting boring anf tiresome.
Well, I’m terribly sorry. I’m not seeking to please everyone, that’s impossible… But I got carried away with the general GW hatred going on lately. I agree, my comments haven’t been dispassionate enough, and have been quite cheap… And a bit dishonest, in retrospect : I do own quite a few GW metal models myself, among their better sculpts. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa ! I guess I’m used to luxuriously detailed minis such as the Infinity range, Studio McVey, and that sort of thing. One thing to say for GW is that their plastic range has made excellent progress… Read more »
If you ask me its just GW reaping what they sow
Then again noone did ask me lol
Gamesworkshop bashing is so boring.
on the account that its so easy or cos everyone does it?? Sorry that is rude i know, but GW dont make it easy to love them I think they produce excellent gaming minatures but other firms make better detailed minis plus from a cost point of view they are charging the same sort of prices, or more even, as excellent ranges which are miles better. I started with GW before they even had a store (i think we may know them as Citadel) and sadly I have seen them waste a lot of good faith over the years. Anyway… Read more »
I really like his finished product but considering I still have over 100 boys that need painting not counting the wife’s fantasy orcs I think ill stick to something a tad quicker.
A nice video, I would have liked to have seen a whole unit finished. While it is nicely done, I do not think that the results are not imitable using traditional techniques. When I had to paint 3 sets of Black Reach for my store, I certainly did not have the time. I find for Orks that Gretchen Green and a wash of Thraka Green provides a nice quick Ork skin, that can be highlighted if so desired. It is not as vibrant as this model, however, I feel it suits 40k well. On another note though, I do like… Read more »
I love painting Videos.
