The Soulblight Gravelords Rise With New Minis For Age Of Sigmar
January 17, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop dove into a host of previews this week for their different games. We start with Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and some excellent new miniatures for the Soulblight Gravelords who are next up for The Mortal Realms.
Wight King // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The first of the miniatures that we got a look at is the impressive leaders of the Deathrattle host. The Wight Kings are fearsome foes that are a martial march for even the Vampire Lords of the Soulblight. They wield fearsome cursed tomb blades that can scythe their way through the living.
As well as the Wight King, you can also use this set to make a Wight Lord who can be used to fight alongside the ranks of the undead.
Wight Lord // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The design of the Wight Kings and Wight Lords is great and falls in line with the design that we've seen develop since The Cursed City. They have a really neat ancient quality in their design and they are starting to remove the inclusion of a lot of bat wings which is likely to make Lloyd quite happy.
Deathly Bodyguards
As well as the new skeletal champions for the Soulblight Gravelords there are also their loyal retainers. The new Barrow Guard replace the Grave Guard (but you could still use the old miniatures in your collection) with excellent new miniatures that can act as the stalwart bodyguards of your characters.

These warriors are deadly killers and freed from their mortal shells, they now fight with exceptional prowess without the fear of exhaustion or fatigue. The bat wings return in some form or another here but the updated look of the miniatures works really well alongside the existing Deathrattle Skeletons.
Barrow Guard // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Barrow Guard can be armed with either swords and shields or double-handed weapons. Raised from their barrows alongside their lords, they are going to be a solid option for building a skeleton-focused Soulblight Gravelords army.
As well as the Barrow Guard, you can also call on the Barrow Knights who can ride into battle alongside those characters we saw above. They are a nice update to the older kits and again fit with the look of the Soulblight.

Once again, they come armed with lances as well as swords and shields for the likes of the Champion. They look fearsome and elite and should be a great way to enhance a new army for this year. I have been tempted by a Soulblight Gravelords army based around Cado Ezechiar and I think this upcoming release could be just what I need to be tipped over the edge.
New Vampire Heroes
The vampires aren't getting left out of the new release for the Soulblight Gravelords and Prince Vhordrai leads the way with a fantastic new miniature.
Prince Vhordrai // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Prince Vhordrai now finds himself able to soar across The Mortal Realms looking to enact his own plans. Nagash might have a bone to pick with Vhordrai but it seems like he and his Blood Knights are eager to slaughter despite the curse lain upon them. He rides into battle on the back of Shordemaire, Lord of Revenants. This creature is one of the Revenant Draconiths that can also be used individually apart from their bloodthirsty master if you see fit.
You can also ride into battle with the Vampire Lord On Nightmare Steed who can unleash their brutal melee finesse from the back of a horse anywhere on the battlefield.

Again, another awesome miniature and a good fit alongside the existing plastic Vampire Lord that you can get for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. All-in-all, the team sculpting the Warhammer Age Of Sigmar range seem like they are having great fun.
New Spearhead & Battletome
Some of the new miniatures are going to be available as part of the new Soulblight Gravelords Spearhead.
Deathrattle Tomb Host // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Deathrattle Tomb Host features a Wight King, the Barrow Guard, Barrow Knights and ten Deathrattle Skeletons. This set sits alongside the older Spearhead and doesn't replace it. It just gives you even more options.
There will also be a brand new Battletome for the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar packed with the new rules, units and more for this faction.

All of these new miniatures will be coming down the pipeline soon. The Soulblight Gravelords are going to be popping up alongside the Gloomspite Gitz in the next couple of months after the release of the Orruk Warclans.
A Deadly Assassin
As well as all of the Soulblight Gravelords releases, we also got a Black Library character for The Mortal Realms. Gotrek's companion, Maleneth Witchblade, is ready to slice and dice her way through her enemies.

She joins her new solo novel, Shade of Khaine, and will get Legends rules for her to be used on the tabletop. She can be used alongside the Daughters Of Khaine or she could also be partnered with Gotrek for a bit of a reunion. I have to say, I don't think the sculptors have done a good job with her face but it might also be the painting. It's good that she finally has a miniature and I will probably still pick it up as a Gotrek fan.
Are you going to be snapping up these new miniatures?

I really like the fantasy skeletons – infantry and cavalry. The vampires not so much. Especially the Vampire Lord On Nightmare Steed. He has strange looking hair! Prince Vhordrai is impressive, but I just don’t want to play with such enormous miniatures. Not my thing.
I have never took an interest in AOS lore, but what happened to Felix! Did he not survive the world ending event of 8th edition with Gotrek? Or is this Felix gender-swapped and race swapped?
*spoilers* During the End Times Gotrek took Grimnir’s place in the Realm of Chaos holding off an unending horde of Deamons whilst Felix returned to The Old World and was with Max & Malakai when it was obliterated. Gotrek was – millenia to everyone else – spat out of the ROC into the Mortal Realms. Initially he went searching for Felix’s spirit before deciding his friend deserved whatever rest he had found. He now seems to be hellbent on giving everyone he knew from TOW a good slap, regardless of the fact that most of them are now Gods…..
So many batwings on helmets…. has Lloyd seen these yet? XD

BATMAN!
These models look great, a nice upgrade for the undead.
I’m going to introduce a new drinking game. Every time GW release a mini with the “foot-on-rock” aesthetic, we all have to chug a pint of beer.
That’s the way to madness! 🤣
I’m pretty sure that’s part of some convention to not allow that?
