Monolith Edition Add Berserk Board Game To List Of 2025 Projects
December 13, 2024 by brennon
Monolith Edition announced another new board game project that will be coming to fundraising next year. Berserk, the anime, will be getting a cooperative board game from the Monolith team sometime next year.
Guts - Berserk // Monolith
The 11th December reveal (as noted by the image above) was this miniature of the epic Guts painted by Seb Lavigne. A new page has also been added to the Monolith website which explains a bit more about what they have planned for the game.
Berserk Board Game // Monolith
This will be a game for one to five players where you will take on the role of Guts and his companions as envisioned by Kentaro Miura. You'll relive key, brutal moments from the manga series and by extension the anime too. All of them are set against the backdrop of notable locations from the tale.
Each hero in the game will have a unique deck of action cards that govern what they can do each turn. You can play a whole bunch of cards each turn but the more you play, the more fatigue will take its toll and drag you down.
"With Berserk, you immerse yourself in a dark, twisted world where hope is scarce, and death is sometimes welcome. Will you become just another sacrifice, or will you find the strength to rise against the fate that awaits you?"
Are you intrigued by what Monolith might be doing with the Berserk board game? It's a significantly more adult story than some of their other games so it will be fascinating to see how exploring those themes affects the game as a whole.

My eyes bulge out and tears flow down my cheeks.
I *might* snag this for my son. He’s a HUGE Berserk fan. I doubt we’d play the game, but if the minis are good, it’s a definite maybe, which (let’s be honest) is why most people buy these licensed board games, anyway. Why not save cardboard and paper, and just release mini sets?
Yeah, well pointed. I would just buy the minis as well.
yep …
and an option to have standees instead of minis would be nice to have for fans who are in it for the game, but can’t justify the additional cost of minis.
win / win in my book
It would be interesting to see the numbers on those variants when companies do that for games.
I know folk like to say that they don’t need/want ‘miniatures’ … but are they really the majority of (potential) buyers ?
Standee options might be win/win/lose though. You’d have to run a separate print run for the game without the miniatures.
Many games that have done standees and minis in crowdfunding where we can see the numbers. They have shown that the people demanding standee versions of every game are a vocal minority (about 10% of the overall players)
@bennythejew I bought Conan “just for the miniatures” and it’s gone on to be one of my favourite games
I am all-in and the campaign has not even started. I have all the graphic novels and enjoyed each one so this is necessary back for me.
It’s that guy from Kingdom Death, right?
You had me right up until Monolith were mentioned. I’m sure the minis will look great though
