Amazon & Games Workshop Warhammer Deal Confirmed
December 10, 2024 by brennon
Amazon and Games Workshop today announced that their deal to create Warhammer TV series and movies has now been confirmed and they are moving on to the next stage, developing those stories with scripts and diving into the nuts and bolts of the creative process.
Warhammer & Amazon Deal
The full announcement was HERE but you can check out the bulk of what this all means below...
"Further to its announcement on 18 December 2023, Games Workshop is pleased to announce that it has now agreed creative guidelines and reached a final agreement with Amazon Content Services LLC, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., ("Amazon") for the adaption of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe into films and television series, together with associated merchandising rights.
Under the terms of the agreement, Games Workshop has granted exclusive rights to Amazon in relation to films and television series set within the Warhammer 40,000 universe, together with an option for Amazon to license equivalent rights in the Warhammer Fantasy universe following the release of any initial Warhammer 40,000 production."
So, exclusive rights for films and television series set within the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Intriguing! The Warhammer Fantasy universe is also up for grabs if the production of the Warhammer 40,000 shows goes well. The exclusive bit is interesting because does that mean Games Workshop won't be able to produce their animations anymore as part of Warhammer TV? We'll have to see as there were more animations on the slate.
Henry Cavill also made his own announcement on Instagram. He seems just as excited as everyone else to delve into what's next.
Secret Level Animation
As well as the announcement regarding the deal between Amazon and Games Workshop, today also sees the release of the Secret Level animated anthology. One of the animations available today is the Warhammer 40,000 one.
Warhammer 40,000 // Secret Level Episode
The episode is available to watch right now for Prime members featuring Titus and his Ultramarine companions striking at the heart of a corrupted world, seeking to destroy a terrible artefact of the great enemy. It is brutal, hard-hitting and very Warhammer 40,000. I've watched it and whilst I enjoyed it, it would have been neat to get a bit more dialogue (no spoilers of course!). Being Space Marines, I should have known they'd be all business!
Are you excited to see what Amazon and Games Workshop have planned?

I want nothing to do with SlimeAzon or the agenda they are pushing.
What agenda is that @wolfie65 ?
🍿🥤
I bet you anything the agenda they are referring to has nothing to do with the fact that they are an amoral, tax avoiding, monopolistic, anti union, anti human rights, predatory business model corporation…
Yeah, I’m guessing this has nothing to do with Bezos, who checks all those boxes.
Nevertheless, it’s the very definition of a corporation. I’m old enough to remember when Amazon was predicted to not survive, peddling books. What a turn of events in just a few decades.
Add a li’l thing called the Kalergi Plan and you’re on target.
‘The Kalergi Plan, sometimes called the Coudenhove-Kalergi Conspiracy, is a debunked far-right, antisemitic, white genocide conspiracy theory’
I mean I just got Fascist Nutjob bingo, how about you guys?
Wow, pretty much what I expected. Anyone that brings up “the agenda” is generally going down these fascist rabbit holes. It’s all too common.
Thanks for saving me a Google search.
There are so many completely rational reasons to hate on Jeff Bezos and Amazon without making up racist bullshit.
Why do people have to be so dumb?
Do some research – no I don’t mean Google, they are part of the propaganda machine – then take a good look around the world you live in.
‘Debunked’ ? No.
‘Conspiracy theory’No.

Good to hear the anti-capitalist rhetoric comrade! It’s refreshing to hear a voice of the people in days when every mentally ill person who should be in an asylum is instead on the internet screeching dementedly about the inclusion of women and minorities in content that has for decades been drearyily pandering to mediocre white men. See you at the Winter Palace!
Indeed, far too many angry white dudes clutching their ironic pearl necklaces and wondering how they keep their misogyny. Sad, really.
Or in the governments of the countries
I’m with ya. Anyone saying “what agenda?” is willfully turning a blind eye to what they did to Tolkien’s work. “The Rings of Power” is “The Rings of Power;” what it isn’t is “The Lord of the Rings.” You’re free to enjoy it if you like it, but it’s not canon, and it never will be. There’s nothing bigoted or misogynist about wanting well-written characters, and believable worlds where different cultures exist in believable, well-considered configurations and distributions, no matter what others might say. I find it odd that people here are slamming Amazon for being an evil corporation (which… Read more »
Spot on, @bennythejew – great take on the duplicitous nature of “the agenda” believers.
I’ll confess the colour-blind casting of season one of Rings was not what I was expecting; that said, once the writing improved, the casting choices just worked their way into the story. Season 2 was rather good, as a result.
I mean you DO realise that is your opinion, not a factual assessment? It doesn’t read like you do. Yes, many white dudes had a lot to say on this matter to the point of farce. But the factual reality is that many, many people enjoyed the show, and completely disagree with your assertions. That’s because art and entertainment are subjective, which is why it’s great to learn words like ‘I think’ or ‘I feel’ rather than making statements that pretend to be objective. The most important reason to do that is because it’s people choking on privilege and viciously… Read more »
Who are you directing this at? Are you mansplaining to me? 🤣 Check that privilege! A term I nearly gag on. Privilege. Ugh. If so, there’s not one feel or think statement in your entire rant. Kind of ironic, and hilarious. The entirety of the internet is people tossing opinions around – modifiers to indicate such are hardly necessary. I doubt this discussion is going anywhere but in little circles around the drain now, so I’m moving on. Cheers all. Enjoy the show – I did. He said with his own sense of self-secure internally safe authority without imposition upon… Read more »
I mean it wasn’t directed at you but since you decided to arc up with a pretty trashy response you probably do need to have that privilege checked since only people who know they are privileged but lack the stones to admit it are going to do that.
I mean I know why you said ‘Ugh’ regarding privilege but if you don’t, probably give that a think or two because it’s pushing you very rapidly in the direction of our friend Wolfgang there.
You seem to have an issue with white people
Have a great day man @datreus ! Not worth going any further. Cheers!
“privilege” 🤣 yes. We are on the same page.
@datreus – what do you mean by privilege. I grew up very poor, but my parents never divorced. Am I privileged? I work for a very wealthy friend. He was born with a golden spoon in his mouth but his father was a womanizer and an alcoholic and his parents divorced when he was old enough to understand what was happening. Is he privileged? More than me? I am white, but nobody ever gave me anything for free, I had to work hard for the little I have. Am I privileged? Also what has privilege got to do with liking… Read more »
I wouldn’t worry about it, @nightrunner – guilt over nothing doesn’t help anything.
Just have an awesome day, and enjoy some hobby, or something.
This conversation has gone so far off the rails, I doubt even @datreus knows what’s up now. I think many of us started on the same page. As with too many internet things, intent, meaning, subtext, and subtlety have become crossed in ways unintended.
Cheers all.
@grantinvanman We don’t see eye to eye on everything, but at least we can talk like friends. I like you man. You’re a hobbyist so part of the tribe. Have a good one.
@nightrunner you too, man! Hobby is the glue that binds.
When you start off thinking you are having a good-faith conversation with someone and then come to the realisation they are just batshit crazy
🤣👍 @solar
You started your statement by saying “I’m with ya” to the fascist who thinks that Amazon is going to start a genocide against white people. That really doesn’t portray you in a good light.
One can hate on Amazon for being an oligarchical corporation that enriches the super wealthy and keeps the poor unempowered while condemning fascist/racist nonsense.
disregard.
“I want nothing to do with SlimeAzon or the agenda they are pushing.”
That is literally the entirety of the post that I responded to. Where on Earth — or any other planet, for that matter — are you people getting this “fascism” and “white genocide” stuff? Good grief!
This will be really interesting to follow over the next few years. The push and pull between successful corporate entertainment venture and grim dark universe is going to be fascinating to watch them chart. Wish them all the best on it because I like to watch good things but given where recent big franchise media has gone, the proof is a long way off yet.
Me too, Jill; this could be fun, good entertainment. It’s probably not going to be award winning but they can’t all be. I’ll just enjoy it for what it is.
The secret level episodes do show that they can put on a good show that respects the franchise one episode at a time.
The real test will be when they have to pad out an entire season.
There needs to be more than combat and grim dark one liners to make that work.
So is Cavill still in the loop or is he out? If Amazon goes about the 40K like it did with The Rings of Power – well it is going to be a major sh*t show (and I am being very positive!).
He announced it on his Instagram at the same time so he’s still involved
Second season of Teh Rings o Powah! was dramatically better than season one. Felt they hit a stride, right up until the final episode which felt rushed. But overall, it became very watchable.
Watched the short that’s in the anthology, was really quite good. Lots of action, some neat surprises, keeps to the 40k grimdark really nicely, and the animation is fantastic.
Worth watching.
The entire anthology I’ve seen so far has been great.
Pacman was odd …
We’ll see. They certainly did quite a job embarrassing themselves with The Wheel of Time and Rings of Power. I’d like to see them make something that doesn’t suck hilariously before I get hyped. Though those shows do have their tiny group of fans, maybe they’ll keep appealing to them.
Wheel of Time was truly awful, not even watchable. Ugh! I shudder at the name.
You should try the anthology short, it was very good, in my opinion. Nailed the 40k aesthetic. Heck, I almost ordered some Space Marines!
Looks interesting
*looks at comments*
Went as well as expected.
*grabs Marshmallows*
If you have a flamewar, make marshmallows. Never let a good fire go to waste.
🤣🔥⬜️
I broke out the popcorn early… was not disappointed or wrong to do so! An online bun fight is not to be missed 🤣
I’m selling torches and pitchforks … very handy in a flame war 😉 oh … and asbestos suits. 😀 The only ‘agenda’ these corpses have is how to make more money while squeezing the little people under their control for every penny they’ve got. They never have and never will care one iota about the IP they’re squeezing for profit. That’s why fans should simply ignore stuff that insults their intelligence instead of inventing conspiracy theories as to why their favourite thing got abused like that. The reason is always the same : more money … Sometimes we get lucky… Read more »
I did enjoy the Secret Level short, so I have high hopes for the rest.
Have to say I enjoyed the whole Secret Level series. The Warhammer one was really good and showed Space Marines as they should be, brutal!
The opening combat scene against the rampaging Cultists was bone-crunchingly good. Loved watching that on my big TV!
The economy of movement and complete lack of hesitation in their actions really sold the superhuman nature. It was a really nice watch.
By The Corpse Emperor, some interestingly bad takes here. Yes, Amazon as a group are “bad corpo” and in general, bad corpos should get in the bin…but the creatives behind the likes of this show are probably awesome people just trying to make an excellent thing. No-one wants anything they work on to be bad… Let’s just adopt the “wait and see” policy shall we? We’ve seen absolutely nothing about the show(s) so far so we can’t make any judgements and it seems far better to be on the side of “I hope the show is good, fingers crossed” than… Read more »
It’s good to see that this project is still moving forward. From a tabletop gaming perspective, I hope that it is a success as it will attract more people into the hobby. I admit that this will be into 40k, and as I don’t play anymore, that won’t have a direct impact on me but then I imagine most of us started out playing 40k and then found other games to enjoy. So over the longer term, success here will benefit the whole hobby and hence why I hope it is successful. I am interested in how they will adapt… Read more »
The short was how I imagine games of 40k to play – I think they really nailed the aesthetic. So if that’s anything to go by, this is going to be a LOT of fun. So much to like in just 20 minutes of animation.
I’m interested to see the final product. The secret level 40k episode was disappointing. The animation was fantastic and they didn’t shy from the gore and brutality which was great, but the overall episode was just a visual spectacle. Like watching a gameplay stream from space marine 2. If they can come up with some actual story, dialogue and compelling characters to put into the mix, they could produce something really interesting. As for the Rings of Power discussion, I’m on the “it sucked” team. I don’t particularly care about the race swapping nonsense, even though I do think it… Read more »
I too initially bowed out at episode 3! But I wanted to watch season 2, and rewatched all of 1. I guess being young and retired, I have more free time. I don’t know if I sat attentively or just tuned in and out (more likely) as needed, though. Until 2, then I was keen. The hobbits and Gandalf are ironically some of my favourite parts. And even Tom Bombadil – who I literally skip when I read the books, even, was engaging. Good actor who played him, I guess.
Season 2 is well worth the watch.
Ooh this looks great 👍
